There’s something about a wedding in the winter months – and this styled shoot captures the romantic potential of the season in the setting of a tucked-away Devon idyll. Hawke Barn, a beautifully renovated 16th century threshing barn, is an intimate and romantic venue that radiates warmth and historic charm. Flanked by 250 acres of countryside, where rolling hills and ancient woodland meet a tranquil lake and charm-filled stables and barns, it makes the ideal canvas for a styled shoot that celebrates the rich pickings of Devon’s natural world and its talented creatives.
Described as “a dreamlike and magical fantasy” by planner and stylist Jenny Dell of Anomaly Weddings who organised it alongside photographer Laura Farmer of Freeformimages, the styled shoot embraces a seasonal palette comprising deep shades of burgundy, rich golds and muted greens. These shades carry from the floral arrangements to the linens, antique candlesticks and golden cutlery. The hues continue with the rose petals and gold shimmers of the cake, which sits alongside a grazing platter brimming with fruits, meats and cheese, and gold-rimmed glasses filled with red wine. A handcrafted element is woven throughout, from the macramé runners and chair accessories and handmade wooden rings to the beautifully scripted stationery rich in the wintery hues.
While the groom wears a country green suit, the bride exudes timeless romance in vintage-inspired lace gowns teamed with a bold lip and extravagant bouquet of seasonal blooms and pampas grass. Amidst the historic walls of the barn and warm glow of candlelight, it is a captivating and oh-so romantic scene for the cold depths of winter.
