Discover an enchanting rural venue near Bodmin

Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Avalen is the epitome of rural romance. Nestled in the wild heart of Cornwall at Lanivet near Bodmin, this secluded gem is hidden amongst 100 acres of rolling farmland, offering couples an idyllic, close-to-nature canvas.

Once part of the Lanhydrock Estate, Avalen’s cluster of granite barns has been lovingly restored over two years by four generations of a local farming family. The result of their devoted labour is a venue where heritage meets heart, and every detail tells a story.

Licensed for civil ceremonies and designed for effortless flow, the venue features a collection of spaces – from a purpose-built breakfast barn to a bespoke bar – making it perfect for three days of exclusive celebrations. Say “I do” in the ceremony room, complete with breathtaking views of Helman Tor, before hosting an al fresco drinks reception in the courtyard. A dream for couples keen to design a personalised day, the versatile layout and blank canvas aesthetic let your vision take centre stage, with the freedom to select your own suppliers and style your day your way. Whether you’re planning an intimate or a grand affair, every corner is primed for unforgettable moments.

After the party winds down, retreat to the Cart House, where a Roman bathtub, super king-size bed and luxury touches await. Just minutes away, your guests can unwind at Tor View Farm, which accommodates up to 28 across a converted barn, cosy cottage and countryside lodge – all with sweeping views, a fully equipped kitchen and barbecue area.

And for couples looking to tread lightly, Avalen delivers on sustainability too. From renewable energy sources and zero single-use plastics to wildlife-friendly initiatives such as restricted lighting and bird and bat boxes, the venue strives to reduce its carbon footprint whenever possible. What’s more, for every wedding held here, an apple tree is planted in honour of the venue’s name, which comes from the Cornish word for ‘apple tree’ and a beautiful ritual to weave into your day.
