The Devon-based accessories brand shines at The Quirky Wedding Awards
Creating stunning, one-off pieces from her solar-powered Devon studio, Janie Wolverson – the talent behind The Lucky Sixpence – has been recognised nationally for her brilliantly unique designs. At this year’s Quirky Wedding Awards – the UK’s only awards celebrating alternative, inclusive, accessible and truly individual wedding suppliers – Janie scooped not one but two accolades: Most Unique Accessory and the coveted Sustainability Award, judged across every category.
Standing out from hundreds of applicants across the UK, The Lucky Sixpence impressed a panel of industry experts through the awards’ distinctive “secret shopper” judging. Each business was assessed as if by a potential client, with websites, social media and reviews scrutinised across four core pillars: Inclusivity & Accessibility, Sustainability, Customer Service and Uniqueness. At the National Final in Birmingham, Janie outshone the competition, securing her place as one of the UK’s most exceptional alternative wedding designers.
Founded by Janie and rooted in her passion for individuality and craftsmanship, The Lucky Sixpence is a sustainable and inclusive handmade hair accessory and jewellery brand that celebrates personal stories. Each piece is created to help individuals reflect their authentic selves, blending ethical design with artistic flair.
Working from her solar-powered studio, Janie brings eco-conscious creativity to everything she makes. Her designs often incorporate reworked vintage elements, locally sourced materials, and even sentimental items supplied by clients, transforming meaningful keepsakes into wearable heirlooms. From themed collections to bespoke commissions, every creation carries a sense of story, soul and sustainable beauty.
“My mission is to create meaningful, high-quality designs for all,” says Janie. “I want to offer a welcoming, safe space where people can browse, shop and connect, knowing their piece is crafted with care for both them and the planet.”
The Quirky Wedding Awards were founded to celebrate a vibrant corner of the wedding industry often overlooked by traditional award platforms. Designed to champion suppliers who prioritise individuality, inclusivity, accessibility and zero-judgement creativity, the awards highlight the incredible talent shaping the UK’s alternative wedding scene.
This year’s double win marks an exciting milestone for The Lucky Sixpence – and a proud moment for the South West’s growing community of artists and makers redefining what wedding style can look like.
