Emily and Nathan first met in 2014, introduced by Emily’s sister, who was dating Nathan’s best friend at the time. “My sister has very sadly since passed away, so we are forever grateful to her for bringing us together,” says Emily.

Nathan had originally planned to propose on Emily’s birthday during an alpaca trekking experience. “He was going to be waiting at the end with an alpaca and the ring,” she explains. But when her mum organised a post-walk pub lunch, plans shifted and the proposal took place at the restaurant instead. “It wasn’t what he’d planned, but it was still beautiful and emotional,” she recalls.

The couple instantly fell in love with The Alverton, drawn to its striking architecture and picturesque grounds. They styled the venue in a palette of sage green and blush pink, accented with gold. “The alpacas’ bow ties even matched our colour scheme!” laughs Emily.

Florals played a key role in bringing the look together, with artificial arrangements chosen so they could be kept by the couple and their guests long after the day. Geometric stands, bird cages, tea lights, aisle blooms, easels and mirrors created a whimsical scene, while the staircase became a standout focal point, dressed with abundant floral arrangements.

Guests gathered for a “short and sweet” ceremony in the Great Hall, set to a carefully curated piano playlist. The ceremony began with Everything by Michael Bublé, followed by Emily’s aisle walk to Holy by Justin Bieber, the signing of the register to Taylor Swift’s Lover and the newlyweds’ exit to Me & You Together Song by The 1975.  After the vows, photographs followed – with a surprise appearance from three alpacas. “It was so heart-warming seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces, kids and adults alike, when they saw these fluffy alpacas dressed in their finest bow ties!” says Emily. “Everyone was taking photos and feeding them carrots. I also loved seeing my pug, Chico, in his pink and sage green harness and bow tie – I think he stole the show!”

Speeches took place before the wedding breakfast – “so Nathan, my dad and best man Ozzy didn't have to wait nervously!” – before guests enjoyed a traditional three-course meal of leek and potato soup, roast chicken and The Great Hall sundae. A Cornish buffet, complete with pasties, rounded off the flavoursome feast in the evening.

The first dance followed, set to 10,000 Hours by Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber, performed live by Something Borrowed. “It was relaxed and romantic, although my sister had to keep coming to the rescue to twizzle my dress from under mine and Nathan’s feet,” laughs Emily. Photo booth fun, alongside “non-stop dancing, singing and laughing,” brought the celebrations to a joyful close. Looking back on the day, Emily is quick to share her planning advice: “It's never too early to start booking suppliers. Get things booked as soon as you can – time really does fly!”
