"To elope is marriage in its simplest and most intimate form," say Lowenna and Pete, who won our Elopement Competition and recently got married at BoHo Cornwall. "Although we knew we wanted to get married, a traditional wedding didn't reflect who we are. Both being introverted characters, we didn't want to be the centre of attention for hundreds of people."
Randomly chosen as the winning couple from hundreds of entries, Lowenna and Tom were excited to learn they'd bagged an entire elopement package, complete with flowers, photography, make-up and hair styling, at BoHo Cornwall.
"When we visited BoHo Cornwall and met the owners, Maya and Tom, it was as if everything we wanted from our wedding day had materialised; the romance, intimacy and beauty," they say. Nestled on the very edge of West Cornwall where the ancient rugged landscape tumbles into the Atlantic Ocean, BoHo Cornwall is a beguiling setting for a wedding. Specialising in soulful, private weddings for two, the 100-year-old Arts and Crafts home brims with magic and romance all year-round.
"The day started off by waking up in one of BoHo's cosy apartments, enjoying beautiful views over Cape Cornwall with breakfast and champagne," says Lowenna, talking us through their big day. "This was shortly followed by the arrival of a beautiful bouquet and buttonhole from the Cornish Cutting Garden. Traditionally the stress starts here, but we continued to be put at ease by the talented hairstylist Kelly Anza and make-up artist Tamsyn Siddiqui."
They were particularly impressed with photographer Adam Gibbard, whose intimate yet relaxed style made the couple feel confident, adding to the experience. "Not all heroes wear capes," laughs Lowenna. "Adam took a very camera-shy, unphotogenic couple and produced stunning photos."
She adds: "We'd like to thank Maya and Tom for making our day completely bespoke and an extended thank you to all who were involved. And a very special thank you to Wed Magazine for making our dream wedding a reality. Our experience of being married at BoHo Cornwall was indescribable. We could not have dreamt up a better location; the grand staircase leading into the candle-lit, oak-panelled hall where we exchanged our vows in front of a stunning stone fireplace. It was perfect."
