Ethereal elopement inspiration made in Devon

You, Me And The Sea

Devon’s south coast makes a dream setting for a summer elopement celebrating the handcrafted treasures of Devon artisans

Nestled along Devon’s south coast between Brixham and Paignton, Elberry Cove proved captivating for Agatha Christie – the small shingle beach is said to have been the writer’s favourite bathing spot and featured in one of her novels. Here, the tucked-away cove makes a serene canvas for an elopement on the water’s edge.

“The aim of the shoot was to showcase the skills of Devon artisans and how an elopement wedding can be chic and unique by choosing handcrafted items,” explains Janie Wolverson of The Lucky Sixpence, who coordinated the shoot as well as designing and crafting the hair accessories and jewellery.

Designed and made by hand in Torquay’s Cockington Court, a series of bridal ensembles from Dandelions and Pearls are captured against the beguiling backdrop of still waters, ancient rocks and the ruins of an 18th century bathhouse. From a romantic confection embellished with florals and a textured gown with dramatic balloon sleeves to a chic slip dress and fashion-forward two-piece, each look is as strikingly beautiful as it is lovingly made.

Also handcrafted and hand-dyed in Devon, a silk kimono from Penelope’s Child brings a unique botanical finish to the bridal separates. Handmade wedding rings from Molten Wedding Ring Company and reworked vintage jewellery from The Lucky Sixpence complete the looks: ethereal drop earrings that catch the evening light, crystals suspended from dainty chains and headdresses awash with crystals and freshwater pearls – all one of a kind and incredibly beautiful. “Full of textures, movement and romance, this shoot is bound to inspire couples to enjoy the intimacy of a summer elopement in England,” concludes Janie.
