Nestled amidst the idyllic countryside of West Cornwall, Stennack Farm’s modern barn serves as the perfect canvas for this styled shoot where a seamless fusion of retro and modern aesthetics creates a feast-for-the-senses scene.
The colour palette – a rich mix of muted beige, mustard yellow, terracotta, deep rust and soft caramel – evokes a nostalgic mood while beautifully complementing the rustic barn setting. The floral arrangements combine these tones with explosions of bright red, burnt orange and blush pink, accentuated by the addition of fresh grapefruits and cherries to the tabletops. Single-stem arrangements add whimsical flair, while bright orange tapered candles and luxe gold flatware pop against a muted canvas of white muslin runners and understated glassware. The centrepiece – a showstopping tiered cake with intricate vintage piping – effortlessly ties the retro-inspired décor together.
“The décor struck a perfect balance between retro charm and contemporary minimalism,” says Jess Baber of Tide the Knot, who styled and coordinated the shoot. “Every detail, from the ornate dinnerware to the bold typography on the stationery, reflected the essence of handcrafted elegance.”
The mesmerising drape installation is the pièce de resistance. Delicate voile fabric in amber, tangerine and soft white cascades from the barn’s ceiling, creating a stunning visual centrepiece. “The effect was absolutely worth it – the fabric moved like a waterfall in the breeze, adding dynamic beauty to the space,” says Jess.
Extending the ’70s aesthetic to the wardrobe, the bridal wear is a vision of modern-meets-vintage romance. A flowing light-as-air gown with off-the-shoulder sleeves and draped bodice oozes boho elegance, while a short dress with a ruffled bodice exudes coquettish charm. An organza ballgown with floral appliqué and puff sleeves is both regal and boho, the pearl headpiece and sleek beehive hair the stylishly timeless finish. A peaked bodice A-line provides a more minimalist aesthetic and is mirrored by the asymmetric mini: an ode to contemporary couture whilst coolly nodding to bygone style.
