Katie and Rob’s romance was nothing short of serendipitous. They first met in 2013 while backpacking through South America, but lost touch soon after. “Then, by pure coincidence, we ended up as neighbours in London in 2017!” says Katie. “We remained friends ever since – until romance blossomed.”

In early 2024, the couple relocated to Australia for work. Not long after arriving, Rob surprised Katie with a low-key proposal as they shared a sandwich overlooking the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

Although their official ceremony took place in Sydney, the real celebration was reserved for Cornwall, where Katie and Rob hosted a relaxed, joy-filled wedding at Boscoppa Farm – owned by friends with a dream of one day hosting events. “The views were perfection,” says Katie. “Our friends had recently purchased a tipi and we both agreed this would be a wonderful opportunity!”

Arriving a week before the big day, the couple and their loved ones worked together to built the tipi and bring their vision to life. Styled in sunset shades of pink, orange and soft neutrals, the golden-hour, boho-festival aesthetic came to life with flowing fabrics, boho furniture, disco balls and neon florals.

“With a September wedding, I wanted to embrace the last days of summer,” says Katie. She created all the stationery herself – from menus and signage to a giant crossword and custom wedding newspaper.

Though the plan had been to wed outside, a last-minute change due to rain moved the ceremony into the tipi – an unexpectedly perfect shift. “It made our 100+ guest list feel like an intimate, small wedding. It was perfect!” says Katie. Rob’s sister led the ceremony using the script from their elopement, with readings from his mum and a close friend, and live acoustic music by Ben Cipolla.

After a confetti throw and Aperol spritz hour, guests enjoyed a relaxed feast featuring charcoal-roasted chicken glazed in chimichurri, Dexter beef short rib and harissa salmon with sides and salads. Despite the drizzle, soft scoop ice cream proved a crowd-pleasing finale.

For their first dance, Katie and Rob chose September by Earth, Wind and Fire – performed by bridesmaid Kate on vocals and best man Jonny on guitar. “It was such an amazing moment that will stay with me forever,” says Katie. “It was really special to have two very important people to us help transition to the party and really kick off the evening,” adds Rob. With dusk settling in, live band The Runaways kept the dance floor full and the energy high well into the night.

Reflecting on the experience, Katie says one of the most emotional parts came the day before. “There was a real buzz of energy and a group effort,” she says. “I couldn’t help but get emotional seeing our friends and family all working hard to help us pull this off – it was really overwhelming.”

For couples planning their big day, she shares this advice: “Put your wedding funds in a separate bank account to easily track spending. Be strict with your budget – if you're cutting something, ask yourself, ‘Will I be upset about this a year from now?’ And prioritise video footage - youl'' never regret reliving the day and seeing all your loved ones together.”
