Emily and Jack’s story began at school, where young love blossomed. “Jack asked me to be his girlfriend on the playground when we were just 15,” smiles Emily. “We’ve now been together 15 years!” To mark eleven years as a couple, Jack planned a trip to Watergate Bay Hotel in November 2023. “We went for a walk at Constantine Bay and he proposed at Trevose Head,” she recalls.

The pair set their sights on a September celebration at Scorrier House, where sun-drenched gardens and elegant interiors provided the perfect backdrop. Planning the day themselves, the couple brought their vision to life with thoughtful details throughout, blending soft pastels with coastal details and personal elements that reflected their story. “I love pink, so it was a prominent colour throughout, including my blush-toned wedding dress,” says Emily.

Florals echoed the palette beautifully, with delicate arrangements in soft pink, cream, lilac and peach woven throughout – from table settings to the sweeping staircase, where a multitude of candles enhanced the dreamily romantic scene.

“We included anything that felt like us,” says Emily. Subtle nods to their love of the coast and surfing appeared in shell place settings and a surfboard guest book, while their shared foodie favourites took centre stage: pasties, doughnuts and a relaxed barbecue feast. “Most of the décor was secondhand or handmade by me and my bridesmaids,” she adds.

The day began with a relaxed morning spent getting ready alongside their closest friends and family. Bathed in sunshine, the couple held their ceremony outdoors in the idyllic gardens. “We’re both quite shy, so we exchanged private vows that morning in the form of letters we read while getting ready,” Emily shares. Guests sipped fizz on the lawns as the newlyweds stole a few quiet moments together before rejoining the party for a feast of smoked meats and mac and cheese inside the house.

As evening fell, celebrations continued with a first dance to I’m With You by Vance Joy, followed by a lively DJ set. A campervan photo booth and the couple’s wooden surfboard guest book proved a hit with guests. “Everyone loved being able to take home photos as keepsakes from the day,” says Emily.

Looking back, the couple treasure the atmosphere above all else. “Sitting at the wedding breakfast, surrounded by all our favourite people enjoying themselves, and our first dance – when everyone joined in – those moments really stand out,” she says.

Their advice to other couples? Start early. “It meant the few weeks leading up to the wedding were much calmer than expected, and we had time to enjoy seeing family and each other,” says Emily. And above all, make it personal. “Ask for help – it’s amazing how many hidden talents your friends and family have. And keep the details personal to you as a couple, rather than what you see online. Those were the parts our guests really noticed.”
