EJ and Lucy met through hockey. “We both played for the same club, but different teams,” explains EJ. “A club Halloween party started it all and we’ve never looked back.”

“We were in St Agnes for Lucy’s birthday weekend and the weather was all over the place, so the only good day was her birthday,” begins EJ of their proposal. “We headed down to the cove just in time for sunset, then walked along the coastal path towards Trevellas and watched the sun go down over Trevaunance Cove. I then popped the question – we both cried!”

A short walk from the setting of the proposal, The Driftwood Spars provided the perfect backdrop for their bloom-filled celebration, styled in “whimsical, summery colours” and brought to life with a host of handmade details. EJ and Lucy designed the stationery and signage themselves, including place cards created using simple letter stamps and pressed flowers.

A pared-back aesthetic allowed the florals to take centre stage. Scattered blooms and candles dressed the tables, alongside photographs of sentimental places around Cornwall and their beloved dogs. “The day before, we also made fresh flower bunting,” adds Lucy. “We had an army of bridesmaids, family and friends carefully tying the flowers onto twine to create it.”

The day began with a relaxed morning by the coast, with EJ and her bridesmaids heading down to the beach to watch guests enjoying a sea dip. After preparations, everyone gathered for a sun-spilled outdoor ceremony in the hillside garden. A gazebo was adorned with cascading florals and ribbons, while bud vases lined the aisle seats and floral arrangements dotted the space. A photo of their dog, Reggie, was even made into a stand so he could ‘supervise’ the day. Lucy walked down the aisle with her parents to a cover of Simply the Best by Billieanne – a nod to her love of Schitt’s Creek – while EJ admits she started crying the moment she saw her. “It was a celebrant-led ceremony, so it felt very personal and emotional,” says EJ. “There were many tears!”

Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés while EJ and Lucy headed to the cliffs above Trevaunance Cove for photos. They returned for a dinner of beef Wellington, pan-fried sea bream and roast butternut squash – though, as EJ smiles, “the highlight was the sticky toffee pudding.”

As the sun began to set, speeches took place outdoors in the cliffside garden before guests made their way to the beach for a golden-hour photo moment, with some even taking a dip in the sea. The couple’s dog, Reggie, joined in too. “The sunset cast a beautiful glow over everyone and the photos were perfect!” says Lucy.

Having been to several of Beyoncé’s concerts together, EJ and Lucy chose her cover of At Last for their first dance. “We love to dance, but there was no routine or big plan – other than the classic dip, which we may have practised a few times in the kitchen!” says EJ. “We just soaked up the moment and finally relaxed into the part of the day where we could simply have fun with all our friends and family.”

When it comes to planning, EJ suggests: “Have wedmin dates. Go for a coffee or to the pub and focus solely on wedding planning. It helps stop it from taking over while still having fun.”
