After matching on a dating app just before the pandemic, Senuri and Cameron enjoyed a whirlwind of dates before lockdown prompted Senuri’s return to her native Australia. “We ended up doing roughly six months long-distance,” says Cameron, who later proposed at Kingswear's iconic Daymark Tower after a three-mile coastal hike.

For their wedding, the couple chose the enchanting surroundings of Deer Park, embracing a soft pastel palette inspired by the season. "We wanted to reflect the spring flowers that would be blooming," explains Senuri.

"The colours also worked beautifully with the sage-green groomsmen’s suits, pink bridesmaids’ sarees and my cream and gold bridal saree.”


Inspired by Deer Park’s cascading wisteria, Cameron designed both the invitations and the programme for the couple’s Poruwa ceremony, setting the tone for a celebration that seamlessly blended British and Sri Lankan traditions against the venue’s stunning backdrop.

 
The day began with an outdoor civil ceremony, followed by a traditional Sri Lankan Poruwa ceremony featuring blessings, the offering of betel leaves, the presentation of gifts to family members, the tying of the necklace and the lighting of the Pahana. Afterwards, dancers led the newlyweds and their guests back to the house in a joyful procession before cocktail hour.

 
While friends and family enjoyed canapés, Senuri and Cameron slipped away for portraits before returning to a wedding breakfast of citrus-cured salmon and whipped goat's cheese salad, followed by roast chicken breast and a Mediterranean vegetable tart. Passion fruit cheesecake with mango sorbet provided a suitably sunshine-filled finale.

 
The party began with a first dance to Olivia Dean’s Dive. “When we ran out of choreography, we got the groomsmen to jump in and join us!” laughs Cameron. “We only started practising two weeks before!” 


When asked about their favourite moment, both return to the aisle. For Cameron, it was “seeing Senuri walking towards me”, while Senuri says her highlight was “seeing Cameron waiting at the end of the aisle”. Sharing her culture with loved ones was another treasured memory. “It meant so much to celebrate our traditions with our family and friends,” she reflects.

 
Their advice for future couples is both practical and heartfelt. “If you're using disposable cameras, add a note asking guests to use the flash,” says Cameron. “We ended up with a lot of blank photos!”

 
Organisation also proved key. “Our Excel spreadsheet was invaluable,” he adds. “We tracked what we'd paid, what was left to pay and even worked out how much we needed to save each week to stay on budget.”

 
Senuri's advice focuses on life after the wedding. “Have a solid honeymoon plan,” she says. “We didn't, and it would have been lovely to have something to look forward to during the post-wedding blues – even if it was something small.”
