Perched above Mevagissey, with extraordinarily beautiful views across the quaint fishing village, the ancient harbour and out to sea, Polpier House is a dreamy place to celebrate a wedding, from the hazy days of summer through to the cosy days of winter.
Complete with turrets and a sleek white façade, the scale and appearance of the building, which was built in 1892, feels almost palatial. However, step inside and the ambience is warm and inviting; it is an exclusive, versatile and spacious setting to make your own for the duration of the festivities. There's accommodation for up to 16: 14 in the house itself and two in the intimate Honeymoon Suite tucked away in the gardens. Polpier's delightful guest cottage can also be booked to provide accommodation for a further ten guests. The bedrooms are light, airy and stylishly pared back; most come with views across the sea and luxe bathrooms with enormous showers and roll-top bathtubs. A series of spaces offer relaxing settings to kick back and play games, from pool to table tennis.
There's a choice of three licensed locations for ceremonies. There's the main hall, which is perfectly positioned to view the bride sweeping down the staircase; the drawing room is a light, intimate setting with huge windows and sea views; meanwhile, a gazebo on the lawn makes an equally spellbinding spot to take your vows in the summer. Receptions can be held for up to 100 guests.
The heart of the house is the kitchen - a large room with a breakfast bar and long dining table set before windows overlooking the harbour and sea beyond. It is a wonderful space for a pre-wedding dinner, celebratory toasts and a gourmet wedding breakfast, the lights of the village and the boats on the harbour twinkling in the darkness.
The attention to detail carries from the beautiful landscaped gardens - dotted with a multitude of stunning flower beds, winding paths and idyllic nooks to rest and gaze out to sea - to the main hall which doubles as a disco. Complete with DJ decks and lighting, the soundproof doors allow revellers to party the night away. Then, of course, you can retire to the honeymoon suite, where the snug bed and glass-screened balcony comes with panoramas across the ocean.
Savour an extended winter wedding celebration at Polpier House; revel in starry-eyed celebrations drinking champagne with your nearest and dearest amidst the glow of candlelight and curl up before crackling log fires while the sea thunders at the harbour below. Wander the shores of the deserted beaches on the doorstep, stroll around the picture-postcard fishing villages and dine in style at the many acclaimed restaurants nearby.
