Exclusive wedding and events venue, Pengenna Manor, an 800-year-old private family home in north Cornwall, has an exciting new events space. The Cowyard Barn is a 200-year-old building that's been restored and repurposed to create a gorgeous undercover space perfect for wedding ceremonies or drinks receptions for up to 150 guests, and a delightful reception dinner venue for up to 100 guests.
Left blank for you to decorate in your chosen style, the concrete floors and bare stone walls are complemented by atmospheric strings of festoon lightbulbs amongst the old beams, and hidden feature lighting. Bespoke rustic trestle tables and wooden folding chairs are available, or you can hire in your own furniture, with the option for external caterers to set up a pop-up kitchen inside the barn or in the courtyard outside. And as for drinks, take advantage of the very cool rustic bar clad in corrugated metal, which is on wheels so it can be relocated for total flexibility.
Celebrating the new barn with a launch night and a gorgeous rustic-styled photoshoot featuring some of the south west's top suppliers, it showcases the space in its finery, with a simple palette of mixed greens and whites. Hand-tied bouquets attached to the chairs line the long aisle, complemented by galvanised urns with sprays of ruscus and eucalyptus, and a stunning feature copper pipe arch under the gable end of the barn.
For the reception dinner, the long lower section of the barn stages rustic trestle tables stylishly dressed with grey earthenware, wine goblets, white linen napkins, smart crisp white and silver table stationery and copper pipe candlesticks with elegant tapered candles intertwined with long strands of greenery.
"We're so excited to be able to offer this fabulous new permanent event space, which can either be used to host a smaller wedding as the main reception space, or in conjunction with a marquee in the garden next door for a bigger celebration of up to 350 guests," says Richard Blewett, proprietor of Pengenna Manor. "It's funny to think where we used to milk and calve the cows, wedding guests will now be partying!"
