Wedding styling: a romantic Cornish elopement

Deeply romantic elopement inspiration at The Cornish Place

There’s something quietly spellbinding about March. That in-between season where winter lingers, but spring begins to stir. It’s in this golden lull that a team of talented Cornwall-based creatives dreamt up vision for an intimate, indulgent and deeply romantic elopement at The Cornish Place.

“When we were dreaming up our recipe for a perfect late winter elopement, we wanted to celebrate not just how creative and cosy an intimate wedding for two can be, but also how that sleepy period between the last throes of winter and the earliest days of spring can hold so much magic,” explains photographer Sarah Rudd of Lyra & Moth.

Set in the rolling hills of Cornwall, the shoot invites couples to sink into the quietude of the countryside. Picture a muslin-draped woodshed bathed in candlelight, the scent of woodsmoke curling through the air, and a table styled with seasonal florals and decadent desserts – just for two.

While Cornwall’s beaches are a classic elopement choice, the shoot draws us inland. “The woodlands are littered with snowdrops and bluebells, the tiny lanes laden with ferns and wildflower hedgerows and the mining heartlands are peppered with the remains of iconic engine houses” notes Sarah. “There’s so much beauty to be admired in the quiet nooks and crannies of the county.” With its cosy converted cottages, outdoor spaces and hot tubs perfect for stargazing, The Cornish Place offers a hideaway where couples can marry and honeymoon all in one enchanting location.

The styling is rich in detail: an anemone-adorned feasting table dressed with a dessert spread worthy of dreams and floral installations that can be easily moved – from the woodshed ceremony to a candlelit dinner in the new glasshouse. “This allows you to truly make the most of your flowers and create a sense of whimsy throughout the day,” explains Sarah.

The bride wears a whimsical, feminine gown by Ailsa Munro, who designs blend period drama romance with effortless movement. Featuring delicate layered tulle, dainty puff sleeves and a velvet bodice, the gown perfectly pairs with boots – perfect for countryside wanders. The hair and make-up echo the whimsical aesthetic, while jewellery from Una Wild Jewellery brings storytelling to life, inspired by Cornish heritage and natural elements. The groom wears a sovereign ring in place of a traditional band engraved with the Kernow cross.

For couples looking to slow down and celebrate without compromise, this shoot is a reminder that elopements can still hold all the magic of a larger wedding – at a beguilingly slow pace. “We hope it inspires couples to consider the peaceful season,” says Sarah. “Crisp winter skies perfect for stargazing, evenings by the fire with comfort food, and sunsets early enough that you can capture the golden hour with ease.” And perhaps best of all – it’s the time of year when life moves gently, giving you space to savour every moment. Perhaps March in Cornwall is calling.
