Wedding styling: industrial with copper accents

Accents of copper bring an industrial edge to a wedding immersed in the wild beauty of Devon's landscape

Set amidst a traditional working farm flanked by fields that roll down to the sea, new South Hams' wedding venue The Grain Store was the striking starting point for this styled shoot. Bringing the wild beauty of its location indoors, natural textures abound in this stunning events space, from warm woods to textured stone, while details such as the dramatic cartwheel chandeliers are a nod to the rustic and industrial character of its setting.

'We were inspired by the origin of a grain store and its associations with the outdoors and the wild Devon countryside,' explains photographer Laura Farmer of Freeformimages Photography. 'We also wanted to draw on the industrial feel of the large workhouse barn, merging and blending the styles and materials from the industrial and natural world to create balance in texture and colour.'

Worn metallic and copper accents feature throughout, blending beautifully with the wood textures of the venue and furnishings; shades of blue which echo the changing mood of the nearby ocean provide the perfect contrast, together with lush foliage-heavy floral arrangements and posies of dried flowers.

'We worked with reclaimed and recycled materials for the copper and wood details, such as the candelabras, archway and cake stand,' explains Laura. The textured tiers of the cake and hints of copper embrace the industrial feel, its tones blending perfectly with the copper-edged stationery.
The bridal look embraces the aesthetic in the copper hints of the handcrafted dress as well as the luxe geometric crown and hairpins of copper and gold. Even the handfasting cord is woven with hues of copper and silver to tie in with the styling.

And this celebration of the surrounding landscape wouldn't be complete without Devon produce: Devon Cove's handcrafted vodka and liqueurs, together with fresh and vibrant grazing platters, bring gorgeous colour and flavour to the scene ' a striking canvas for a modern rustic celebration.
