Love on Cornish Shores

Jess and Yousif's picture-perfect wedding at Trereife House

Jess and Yousif's love story has taken them from the beautiful city of Bath, where they first met through a mutual friend, to the balmy climes of Thailand, where Yousif proposed on the last night of their holiday. And it was the elegant setting of Trereife House, nestled amidst an idyllic corner of west Cornwall, which made the dreamy backdrop for their wedding day.

The picturesque gardens and manor house needed little in the way of styling, so Jess opted for muted colours and natural touches to complement the setting. Filled with ornate vintage French furniture, the French Room provided a photogenic backdrop for an exciting morning of preparations for Jess and her bridal party. She shone in an intricately embellished gown from Blue by Enzoani, alongside her sister, who was Maid of Honour, in soft green and her three toddler bridesmaids.

The intimate ceremony took place in the drawing room; a piano soundtrack from Thalia Hughes lent an ambient touch, while Ekhohead, acoustic duo Jethro and Alyssa Lynch, brought their folk-influenced sounds to the drinks reception. "After milling with the guests, Yousif and I then had our photos taken in the grounds and went to Penzance Promenade and Newlyn harbour for some location photos," says Jess.

After the photos, the couple and their guests moved onto a marquee in the grounds of Trereife where foliage added a lush touch of greenery and pretty flowers crowned the tabletops. "I lost my beloved grandmother late last year so we had her garden swing in the marquee, along with flowers from her garden to give a sense of her presence there and to remember her," comments Jess.

While vocalist Johanna Graham and guitarist Martin Bowie provided the music, guests tucked into a hot buffet of the couple's favourite foods. "The canapes were mainly seafood, and for the main course we had crab cakes, chicken curry and lamb kebabs. The salads had a Middle Eastern theme as Yousif is Iraqi," says Jess. "For dessert we had chocolate brownies with clotted cream and Cornish strawberries: my guests are still talking about the brownies to this day!"

In the evening, Jess and Yousif cut the cake just as the evening guests were arriving and live band The Swing Empire revved up the tempo.

"My favourite moment was sitting down with Yousif just after we entered the marquee and looking around at our guests, listening to the music and thinking that everything was perfect and just as I wanted it," recalls Jess.
