One Fine Weekend

Jane and Adam's dazzling weekend wedding at Bridwell Park

After a blind date set up through friends, romance blossomed for Jane and Adam. He popped the question at home one Friday evening before whisking his fiancee out for a night at the Corinthia Hotel in London. "He thought he had been very secretive," says Jane, "but I had figured out that he was planning to propose nearly a week before!" So a lovely bunch of white roses and a scented candle met Jane in the study of their home, alongside a card that simply said 'Will you marry me?' "When I turned around Adam was on bended knee in the doorway with a diamond ring in his hand," she says.

The couple planned a wedding weekend in the idyllic setting of Bridwell Park. "It was my birthday on the Friday so we had a party with family and the wedding party at the venue the night before," says Jane.

The next morning, she relished getting ready with her bridesmaids, slipping into her stunning lace gown by Pronovias. Her bouquet - a gorgeous medley of blooms in shades of pink, purple and cream - echoed the stunning floral arrangements and bridesmaids' dresses.

All 140 guests gathered for the garden ceremony, where Jane's late father's brother walked her down the aisle. "He is Malaysian and lives in Penang, so had travelled a long way with his family for the wedding," says Jane. The couple tied the knot outside under a beautiful arch of roses. "Adam and I then took a spin in a friend's vintage Mercedes and came back to confetti, champagne, canapes and photos," says Jane.

"My mum unfortunately passed away just weeks before our wedding," says Jane. "But she had made us promise to continue with the wedding whatever happened, so my chief bridesmaid, Christie, read out a letter my mum had written for me and my friend, Leonie, did a speech which stole the show!"

Served in the orangery, the sumptuous wedding breakfast reflected Jane's roots. "I'm half Malaysian and half English so we had a choice of lamb or vegetarian curry to represent this," says Jane of the roasted chump of lamb with herb crust and cauliflower and spinach Ceylon curry, both served with a host of tasty trimmings. A 'Taste of Devon' dessert trio and wines from The Wine Society completed the exquisite feast.

"After dinner, everyone was invited for cocktails and cake in the chapel while the orangery was set up for dancing," says Jane. Live band Fake Tan then wowed the crowd with some energetic covers before some of the guests tucked into a late night round of port and cheese. The next day, a barbecue in the grounds to a soundtrack from The Swing Kings rounded off the celebrations. "We managed to say goodbye to the last guest just as the heavens opened!" remembers Jane.
