Kit and Chris first crossed paths in Manchester, when Chris was visiting a school friend and Kit was studying at university there. They struck up an easy friendship, but romance didn’t blossom until after graduation.
A few years later, the pair set off on a road trip to France with their sausage dog to meet Chris’ family on holiday. They stopped in Rouen en route – and it turned into a moment they’d never forget. “After dinner we stumbled across a light show on the central cathedral, and Chris got down on one knee in the gardens,” reveals Kit. “I was very shocked and put the wrong hand out for the ring, which he'd picked out with my mum months before.”
The couple chose Prussia Cove for their weekend-long celebration – a place close to their hearts that Kit first visited at the age of four and returns to every October. “It’s always been a special place for me,” she says. Their joyful, pink-hued wedding featured shades of rose throughout, from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the wild, locally grown blooms.
Adding personal touches, Kit handmade the napkin rings and oyster place while “Chris's mother and sister-in-law made the amazing pink ribbon bunting,” she adds.
Having legally married in London the week before, Kit and Chris held a personal, celebrant-led ceremony by the sea, accompanied by the gentle murmur of the tide. Kit walked down the aisle to Billane’s cover of Simply the Best, before the couple exchanged their own vows and rings – with their sausage dog acting as ring-bearer. They also planted an olive tree on the grounds, “so we can visit it when we go to Prussia Cove each year,” smiles Kit.
Guests enjoyed a relaxed drinks reception with oysters, canapés and garden games, all set to live accordion music. “We are big on parlour games at home so made sure to incorporate some fun into the drinks reception,” says Kit. “We had a basket of clothes pegs, and guests had to secretly clip them onto each other, which was very entertaining!”
The couple’s playful spirit continued with a “find your face to find your name” table plan featuring guests’ baby photos. Speeches were interspersed throughout a feast of smoked beef brisket, loaded Cornish potatoes, tenderstem broccoli and harissa-roasted carrots, finished with a ‘Cornish Mess’.
For their first dance, Kit and Chris chose a choreographed routine to Land of 1000 Dances. “This was a complete surprise for everyone, and they loved it,” says Kit. “We followed it with Fatboy Slim’s Praise You to make it clear we were there to party – definitely a highlight!”
Cocktail hour flowed into a lively dance floor. “A standout moment for us was our entrance into the wedding breakfast,” shares Kit. “We had Stargazing by Myles Smith playing and everyone was singing and dancing – the energy was amazing. One of our groomsmen ended the night by singing Last Request by Paolo Nutini, and everyone formed a big circle, singing and swaying as Chris and I danced in the middle. Tears were definitely shed!”
Looking back, Kit describes it simply as “the best day of our lives so far!” Her advice for other couples? “Start planning early. We had two years to plan, so we booked the main suppliers early and tackled the smaller details gradually – it made the process enjoyable rather than stressful.”
