A dating app first encounter led to love for Laura and Jason. “Our engagement happened on a trip to Mexico, where Jason dragged me out of bed first thing in the morning ‘to see the beautiful sunrise’ – only to propose on the shores of the Riviera Maya!” reveals Laura. “We spent the rest of the day exploring the island of Cozumel and snorkelling.”
Inspired by the coastal setting of their engagement, the couple chose Lusty Glaze for their wedding celebration by the sea, envisioning a relaxed, joy-filled day on the shoreline.
A soft pink palette wove through the details, from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the floral arrangements. Simple tablescapes allowed the white sands and ocean views to take centre stage, featuring low-key floral arrangements of single stems and bud vases. Echoing the soft palette, a ceremony arch adorned with pampas grass, dried palms and delicate pink blooms framed the ocean beyond.
After a gloomy start to the day, the sun came out – and guests were welcomed with cocktails ahead of a sun-soaked beach ceremony overlooking the sea. The bridesmaids read a poem composed by Jason, while Laura’s favourite Taylor Swift song added another personal touch. A confetti-filled exit led into an al fresco reception of cocktails and canapés while the newlyweds ventured off for photos, accompanied by the live music of Will Keating drifting through the sea breeze.
Designed with guests of all ages in mind, the day embraced the venue’s relaxed beach setting. “We had a lot of children in our wedding party, and they loved being a part of the day,” explains Laura. “The beach meant they could run free and go for a swim to keep entertained.” The shoreline also provided one of Laura’s favourite moments from the day. “Walking along the beach at low tide, away from everyone and having a bit of time just the two of us,” she reflects.
A sit-down barbecue feast of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, served alongside salads, sweet potato fries and corn on the cob, preceded the speeches. Despite having an early morning swim, the groomsmen couldn’t resist heading back into the water. “The grooms party stripped down to their speedos and headed into the waves,” laughs Jason. “One of the best men ended up losing his front tooth – luckily it was already fake!”
As evening fell, live band Pharaoh and the Beats kicked off the party before Laura and Jason took to the dance floor for their first dance to I Guess I’m In Love by Clinton Kane. Forgoing a traditional wedding cake, the couple served pizza and pots of ice cream to keep guests fuelled throughout the evening celebrations, which continued with a silent disco after the band’s second set.
Asked what advice he would give to other couples planning a wedding, Jason stresses the importance of staying true to yourselves. “Don’t be afraid to change your vision. We originally planned for a later start time, but we ended up starting as early as possible – and we needed every minute! We used every moment of the day and still wished we’d had another two or three hours to keep the party going!”
“Work with each other to create a day that reflects you both and don't compromise,” he adds. “And if you’re getting married at Lusty Glaze, make sure you check the tide times and sunset beforehand so you can make the most of the caves for photos and plan your schedule around it.”
