Hen Parties - Cornwall

Innovative hen party ideas

Wed investigates the best hen party hangouts and crazes in Cornwall...

The modern hen party isn't what it used to be. Remember the days when a hen do meant parading around your local town with a flashing veil and a programme of ritual humiliation mapped out for the evening? How times have changed.

The modern hen wakes up the morning after with so much more than a sore head, a truckload of phallic paraphernalia and a set of cringe-inducingly awful photos on Facebook - she might emerge in her very own hip hideaway with a fledgling passion for a new hobby or a creation made by her very own hands (though we don't discount the very real possibility that the former may feature somewhere).

Check out these seriously cool hen party haunts...

For house-party hens...

Fancy a generous dose of private and exclusive luxury for some kick back time? Polpier House sits within two acres of enclosed, landscaped gardens, presenting uninterrupted views over the ancient fishing harbour of Mevagissey on Cornwall's south coast. Comprising two beautiful houses, Polpier (which sleeps 16) and Penpol (which sleeps 10), a large number of hens can join you in lapping up the style and comfort of this picturesque location.

Polpier boasts its own private suite, tennis court and garden pool. Meanwhile, Penpol takes the fine form of a glorious Garden House. Active hens might enjoy the likes of sailing, fishing, golf and clay shooting, which are all available nearby, or you can arrange your own in-house table tennis or snooker tournaments. For a day of sheer indulgence, schedule a massage and lounge by the pool followed by a wine tasting session and professionally cooked meal washed down with cocktails; round off the celebrations by staging an in-house private disco. A fun and sophisticated seaside hen weekend starts here.

Lower Barn is an award winning boutique guest house in the heart of the Cornish countryside, close to the sea, where you will enjoy being thoroughly spoiled. Offering relaxing hen breaks with sumptuous rooms, great food and holistic therapies, indulge yourself and your gal pals with some very dreamy downtime.

The Treatment room, Chill out lounge and teepee tent are set in peaceful surroundings in the garden and are all used for therapies. Bubble away in the Hot Tub set on their wooden decking with views over Cornwall's glorious countryside and gaze up at pinpricks of stars in a black velvety sky. Divine.

Milliner Holly Young's passion for contemporary and period design and eye for beautiful detail is reminiscent in her elegant range of hats, fascinators and bridal headpieces. Holly's workshops allow groups of hens to try their hand at crafting equally stylish, vintage inspired fascinators to wear on a night out or on the wedding day itself.
You'll be able to make a headpiece using a pre-made circular base as a starting point (so you can get straight to the fun part), choosing the design of the all the decorative trimmings. All materials, from feathers, ribbons, silks, buttons and beads to netting and trimmings, are included. Holly can either come to you or arrange a studio space in Truro.

Alternatively if you can choose from a selection of craft-it-yourself sewing kits to make at home, including silk and lace brooches & dip dye fascinators. A great option if your party isn't being held in the southwest. All of the kits come with full instructions and a link to an online video tutorial so you can make them at your own pace.

Workshops cost 35 per person for three hours tuition with the bride-to-be attending for free with larger groups. And craft-it-yourself kits are between 10-20 per person.
