The quiet poetry of the natural world, and the beauty found right on our doorstep, underpins this ethereal shoot at Trevenna. Nestled among the granite-strewn heights and heather-cloaked curves of Bodmin Moor, the venue is a rural idyll: a cluster of beautifully restored barns set within lush gardens, with sweeping views across meadows and moorland. It’s a dreamlike canvas for this love letter to nature and its ever-changing beauty.
“Set in the soft glow of early autumn, the aim wasn’t to create something overtly ‘autumnal’,” explains florist Marina Law of Artem Florum, who styled the shoot. “Instead, it was about honouring the gentle shift in the season – those muted tones, the turning hydrangeas and the textures that only nature can supply.”
More than 200 hydrangeas were gathered from Trevenna’s grounds in the weeks leading up to the shoot, capturing their petals as they faded into antique hues. “After drying them in my workshop, they became the backbone of the designs,” says Marina. “I paired them with foraged acacia, rosemary, bay, chocolate cosmos and an eclectic mix of foliage and seed heads.”
Each arrangement was created with the intention of blurring the line between inside and out, echoing the surrounding landscape and celebrating materials quite literally found underfoot. Sustainability and repurposing were central to the concept, too. True to Marina’s ethos, the florals were designed to move seamlessly through the day, from ceremony to reception. From the plinth arrangements to the garland, every piece was conceived with fluidity in mind, bringing soft, autumnal tones into the Garden Room. “The lightweight hanging installation was built in three sections so one of them could be carried outside and dressed across the arbour for a completely fresh moment,” she adds.
Completing the scene, the bride and groom become part of the canvas. She wears a timeless gown of intricate floral lace, followed by a dusty rose tulle design adorned with fine sequins, while his look is grounded in earthy hues and tactile tweeds. Whether bathed in natural light indoors or beneath a dusky sky on leaf-strewn ground, photographer Rosie Hardy captures every detail with a sense of atmosphere, artistry and quiet emotion.
A reflection of Trevenna’s ethos, this shoot is a study in nature, sustainability and considered design. “When you honour what’s around you and use flowers with intention,” concludes Marina, “you create beauty that moves gracefully throughout the day.”
