JUSTIN DUANCE: A DEEP CONNECTION TO NATURE AND NATURAL FORMS

Based in deepest West Cornwall, Justin Duance is endlessly inspired by the wild beauty of his surroundings. “Justin’s signature style is characterised by a connection to nature – in his jewellery design, but also in the techniques he uses, which draw directly from our natural surroundings,” explains Jamila Hirtenstein. “While his designs are varied, spanning from pieces inlaid with hardwoods to rings reminiscent of our rocky cliffs, it’s his sandcast rings that are most popular with brides and grooms. The sandcast rings are made by casting precious metals into beach sand; the sand not only creates a unique texture on each ring, but tiny grains are captured in the gold.

As a way of personalising your ring, you’re invited to choose sand from a place that holds special meaning to you for your ring to be cast in. These unique and organic bands can then be further embellished with diamonds and gemstones (all ethically sourced), from subtle vintage diamonds set into the texture as if they have grown in place to twists on classic solitaire and eternity rings. Justin’s sandcast rings have a contemporary yet timeless feel that makes them a brilliant choice for a wedding ring.”

STEPHANIE STEVENS: SIMPLE, ELEGANT AND INSPIRED BY THE SEA

With her studio located within touching distance of the sea in the pretty town of St Ives, the ocean is an irresistible source of inspiration for Stephanie Stevens when designing and crafting her wedding and engagement rings. “I would say my signature style would be simple and elegant,” says Stephanie.

“My most popular styles are those featuring the sea, whether it’s using an Ocean Diamond – which are hand-picked by divers off the coast of Namibia and South Africa, sustainably sourced and conflict-free – or incorporating a wave shape, engraving or a sparkling blue or green gemstone that captures the shapes, colours and mood of the ocean.”

BECCA WILLIAMS: TIMELESS AND MEANINGFUL FUTURE HEIRLOOMS

Creating original pieces from her Penryn studio, jewellery designer and goldsmith Becca Williams counts her collaborative and personal approach to design as key to her service. “Jewellery is a beautiful way to mark moments in life. I believe the jewellery you wear should feel like an extension of you, reflecting and magnifying who you are as you move through the world,” says Becca. “I specialise in taking a creative and collaborative approach to design, to gently guide and bring to life your ideas.

After 15 years I’m still fascinated by the possibilities of jewellery design. I love how much meaning can be woven in, how much thought or history a single piece can hold, the connections between pieces and people, the possibilities of the materials and the process of getting covered in grime and gold dust. Whether you’d like to alter one of my existing designs to form your engagement ring or imagine something entirely new, together we will create a piece of your dreams.”

FOUND TREASURE: WAVE-LIKE SHAPES INSPIRED BY THE CORNISH COAST

Falmouth-based Naomi Lewis of Found Treasure designs and crafts her jewellery within touching distance of the sea – and she counts the beauty of the surrounding landscape as the muse for her signature coastal jewellery design. “My signature style focuses on coastal wave-like shapes,” explains Naomi.

“Drawing on my Cornish heritage and collaborative approach to bespoke, my pieces are individually made with recycled metals, Ocean Diamonds and colourful gemstones, designed for people of the ocean. I work with a wabi-sabi style, bringing in the perfectly imperfect shapes and letting the liquid-like shine bring my pieces to life. I also work with lost wax carving so that each ring is unique in its own way and designed around your personal style with a hint of Cornish magic.”

SVENDSEN JEWELLERY: MINIMAL SCANDINAVIAN STYLE MEETS CORNISH INFLUENCE

Stine Ingvoldstad Svendsen of Svendsen Jewellery draws on both the rugged beauty of her west Cornwall home and her Norwegian homeland to create her striking jewellery. “I take inspiration from both my Scandinavian roots and Cornish home to create simple, elegant jewellery, handmade from sustainable, ethical materials,” says Stine.

“Minimal lines and clean geometric shapes evoke the beautifully stark and windswept landscapes of both Penwith and Norway. Angles and sharp lines play with light and reflection, creating a tantalising juxtaposition with the more sensual curves of the human form.”
