The hardest naturally occurring substance on Earth, diamonds are as enduring as they are exquisite. It’s no surprise they remain a much-loved choice for couples seeking a contemporary look with timeless appeal.
One of the things that makes diamonds so appealing is their versatility. Today’s rings come in a dazzling array of designs – from bold solitaires to delicate scatterings of tiny stones. Whether sleek and minimal or richly textured, you can select or commission rings that reflect your personal vision.
Here’s our guide to modern diamond wedding rings...
Setting
A single central stone – the classic solitaire – remains one of the most timeless and impactful ways to wear diamonds. But if you’re after something a little different, scattered or side stones offer equally eye-catching alternatives.
Think micro pavé, grain-set or flush-set diamonds arranged organically or in subtle clusters. You might opt for a hint of colour, incorporate gemstones such as sapphires or rubies, or create a stack of rings by mixing textures and styles – from tiara and wishbone to V- and U-shaped bands, as well as cut-out designs.
Shape
The cut of your diamond – and the shape of your band – can shape the overall feel of your ring. Try a range of cuts to see what suits you best, from classic round stones to more distinctive shapes such as princess, cushion, emerald, marquise, oval, heart and pear.
Band shape plays a part too. Court-shaped rings are a classic and comfortable choice, while curved or contoured bands – especially those designed to sit alongside an engagement ring – create a softly sculpted, modern look.

Colour & Cut
From classic white to warm champagne tones, or vivid ‘fancy’ hues – including pink, yellow, blue and even rare reds – diamonds offer a beautiful spectrum of colour.
For a vintage-inspired feel, opt for a halo design or a traditional flush (gypsy) setting. If you prefer a more contemporary look, a bold signet or colourful bombé ring makes a statement, while a slim, horizontally set baguette brings a clean, minimalist edge. For something sharper, consider angular shapes such as trillion cuts.

Metal & Finish
From platinum and palladium to yellow, white and rose gold, your choice of metal can shape the overall look. Consider your skin tone, personal style and how the metal complements your chosen diamond – or mix metals for a relaxed, modern feel.
A high-polish finish gives a classic shine, while matte, satin or brushed bands offer a subtle texture. For something more organic, explore hammered, hand-carved, sand-cast or bark-textured finishes.
For a truly personal touch, consider engravings – from meaningful dates and initials to symbols, scripts, mottos or even star maps – adding an extra layer of sentiment to your rings.

Know your stones before you say yes…
Natural diamonds
Formed over billions of years under extreme heat and pressure within the Earth. Look for certification from trusted bodies such as GIA or IGI. The Kimberley Process aims to prevent the trade of conflict diamonds, though additional traceability is often recommended for greater transparency. Recycled diamonds are another thoughtful option.
Lab-grown diamonds
Created using advanced technology that replicates natural formation. Chemically identical to mined diamonds, they offer a more affordable alternative.

Treated diamonds
Natural diamonds that have been enhanced to improve their appearance (for example, laser drilling to reduce visible inclusions).
Diamond simulants
Materials that resemble diamonds but differ in composition, such as moissanite and cubic zirconia.

Marine diamonds
Natural diamonds recovered from the seabed, most commonly off the coast of Namibia.
Vintage & old-cut diamonds
Antique diamonds, usually hand-cut prior to the 20th century, prized for their softer, romantic sparkle.
Fancy coloured diamonds
Diamonds with natural or treated colour. The more vivid the hue, the rarer they tend to be.
