Got Wed - Real Weddings in Cornwall and Devon

Wedding at The Corn Barn, Devon

Here Comes The Sun

Koren and Mark's late September celebrations at The Corn Barn

“Our love story started on Tinder,” laughs Koren. “Mark was my first date from the app – the rest is history!”

Mark popped the question in swoon-worthy style at the Place des Vosges in Paris. “We had woken very early that morning and decided to go for a walk and coffee before everyone else got up,” says Koren. “Mark dropped to one knee when we got to the central fountain – only a few joggers saw us! We wandered around Paris for the rest of the day before telling our nearest and dearest that evening.”

The Corn Barn was the first venue Koren went to look at with her mum. “I immediately feel in love with it and how light and airy the barn felt,” she says.

The couple chose a late September date for their “relaxed, not too formal day” and a colour scheme of blush with hints of deep purple and burgundy for an autumnal touch to reflect the changing of the seasons; everything from the floristry to the décor beautifully combined to create the scene.

Koren arrived for their ceremony in the apple orchard courtesy of a Classic Jaguar 1967 S-type, exiting to reveal her gorgeous crepe Augusta Jones gown from Kate Walker Bridal in Honiton where she grew up. “I always admired her work from the window, and nothing compared to how she made me feel, described the whole process and explained the different styles,” says Koren. “I’d said I wanted nothing sparkly but after trying on the dress I was won over by the sparkly details down the back!”

Emerging as a married couple and “walking back out of the orchard after the ceremony in the sunshine holding hands seeing all our family and friends around us” is Koren’s most treasured memory.

Guests tucked into a feast comprising pork and mushroom croquettes; pressed feather of beef and roast squash; and a sweet trio of deconstructed apple caramel cheesecake, chocolate and polenta brownie, and tart of honey-roasted plums with honey and mascarpone cream.

“For favours, we decided to donate to a charity close to both of us – Dorothy House Hospice Care,” says Koren. “As a GP, I refer a lot of patients to the hospice for their amazing support and it is also a chosen charity for the law firm Mark works for as a solicitor. Each guest had a charity pin badge with their place card.”

Having attended one of his concerts for their third date at Bristol’s O2, the newly-weds’ first dance to James Bay’s ‘If You Ever Want To Be In Love’ was another standout moment, which kick-started an unforgettable evening of drinking, dancing and merriment.

“Have an engagement shoot if possible – and get to know your suppliers and meet them face to face,” says Koren of how striking up a good rapport with all of the people involved helped them to achieve a relaxed attitude. “This put us at ease a lot on the day.”
