All That Glitters

Alisha and Lee's golden celebrations at Glazebrook House Hotel

Alisha and Lee first met in the balmy climes of Ibiza when she was working and he was on holiday. "Love blossomed the following year when he came back out to visit and I spent the whole holiday with him," she recalls. "We spent 18 months commuting between London and Plymouth, until I moved to Plymouth four years ago!"

The proposal took place in another exotic locale during a holiday to Vietnam and Thailand. Lee had planned to propose on the picturesque island of Koh Tao. "But in typical 'us' fashion, it was waist-high underwater and we couldn't get there!" explains Alisha. "So on our final meal before leaving for the airport, he popped the question with a Haribo ring: something he had always said he would do! It was hilarious!"

Glazebrook House Hotel provided the perfect party space for the pair, whose house had been renovated in a similar style "and it just felt like home from home. So many of our guests commented that the venue was so 'us' on the day," says Alisha. "I loved the 'Alice in Wonderland' theme at the hotel, which worked perfectly with our Mad Hatter magician and details such as the cake."

A colour scheme of navy, gold, burgundy and blush was carried in everything from the invitations and flowers to the cake and candles, as event coordinator Alisha relished the opportunity "to let my imagination run wild!".

The intimate afternoon ceremony with 50 of their closest family and friends meant that the couple could prioritise the menu, offering their guests four different options for each course.

"We both love food and it was so important for us to have five-star food. We were lucky enough to try all the options, and everything was unbelievable," says Alisha.

Magician Dan Brazier wowed guests while the newly-weds disappeared for a fun-filled confetti shoot, returning for the speeches ahead of a much raved-about set by musician, Eddy Smith.

"We wanted a small wedding and were strict with our guest list," says Alisha of the rigours of wedding planning. "Although it was hard to stick to it, staying small really paid off. It was so amazing to see all of our closest friends and family mingling and making friendships."

Taking heed of the advice given to her to take a few moments throughout the day to just stand back and take everything in, Alisha remembers "looking at everyone smiling and laughing. I just thought: 'Wow - this is our wedding day!'"

"Know what you want and know how much you have in your budget to spend on it," she advises other couples. "Get all the important things done first and save the small details until after."
