Wedding at Deer Park Country House, Devon
Kate and Will's Christmas celebration at Deer Park Country House College sweethearts Kate and Will were at their favourite place when Will proposed. “We were at Glastonbury Festival where we have made many happy memories together. The proposal was without question one of the most magical moments of my life, and was followed with celebrations involving cider and falafels,” reminisces Kate.
“We chose to get married at the Deer Park Country House where I work as the wedding coordinator,” she says. “Some think it was a bit strange that Will and I chose to get married where I work but for us it is the perfect venue. From the cosy relaxed feel of the house, the beautiful botanical orangery that is flooded with natural light, and stunning features like the sweeping staircase, the house provides the perfect canvas. Combine that with the friendly service and dedication of the team, it really does tick all of the boxes.”
Choosing Kate Walker Bridal to purchase her dress was another easy decision. “Kate is amazing! I went in with a set idea of what I wanted but when Kate put me in ‘the’ dress it was not what I expected at all but was without question ‘the one’, it made me feel both happy and confident.”
A palette of forest green, soft copper and grey complemented the festive features of glitter baubles, handcrafted wreaths and Christmas trees, while an abundance of greenery dotted with white flowers and stylish stationery incorporating forest green and copper calligraphy completed the dazzling scene.
As well as focusing on the look, Kate and Will also planned a day packed with entertainment to ensure each stage presented something different, from the pianist during the ceremony and drinks reception to Charlotte Atkinson’s watercolour portraits and magician Dan Brazier. Later, live music from Mammoth kick-started the party with a set list of pop, funk and soul covers.
“With Dan and Charlotte mingling with our guests, it was the perfect moment for Will and I to step back and watch how happy our guests were and realise just how perfect the day was,” comments Kate.
Ensuring all their guests’ senses were spoilt, the menu provided a further talking point, with confit duck and duck Scotch egg followed by roasted chicken supreme and a delicious trio of desserts: white chocolate and raspberry crème brulee, lemon meringue cheesecake and chocolate brownie. The lip-smacking treats continued with a spectacular two-tier cake.
“It’s true what they say – the day flies by,” she adds to encourage other couples to stop during the day and take grateful stock. “Besides our ceremony, our most memorable moment was after the wedding breakfast when we planned a retreat to the lounge. With the open fire roaring and a hot beverage in hand, it provided the perfect backdrop.”
She adds: “It’s so important to have complete trust in your suppliers, choosing the right ones will see your vision come to life. Do not stress over the small stuff – it’s all about friends, family and your love on the day.”
