“We met in the modern romantic way – on a dating app,” smiles Segun. “After multiple last-minute rain checks on Imogen’s behalf, she finally made it to a date where we went for a beach walk in Cornwall – and it’s been love ever since.”
When Segun arranged a trip to her godparents’ villa in Spain, he first sought Imogen’s parents’ blessing before planning an early-morning proposal during a mountain hike. “At the top of the mountain, I set up a camera and pretended to stumble, hoping she’d run over to check I was okay. Instead, she laughed,” he says. “That’s when I pulled out the ring and asked her to marry me.”
The couple’s wedding unfolded across two distinct celebrations. The festivities began at Stennack Farm, where vibrant blue-and-gold décor and traditional attire set the scene for a joyful Nigerian ceremony. Guests embraced the occasion by wearing traditional Nigerian dress, while family members were formally introduced before the groom and bridal party danced in to exchange promises and make declarations. “The focus of the evening was fun, food and our favourite songs,” says Segun.
The following day, the celebrations moved to Scorrier House for a black-tie wedding styled with elegant details. Olive-green bridesmaids’ dresses complemented arrangements of seasonal blooms in soft peach and blush tones, while foliage and flowers tumbled down the venue’s magnificent staircase, entwined with candles. Having spent several months working as a wedding registrar, Imogen drew on her experience while planning the celebrations, with help and inspiration from family and friends.
Blessed with glorious sunshine, the couple exchanged vows in the beautiful walled garden. “Rather than the traditional format, we each wrote personal vows and read them blindly to one another, much to the amusement of our guests,” says Segun.
The surprises didn’t stop there. Hidden among the guests, members of the band suddenly emerged to lead a Love Actually-inspired flashmob performance, quickly drawing everyone into the fun. Drinks and canapés by the pool were accompanied by live music, while an illustrator captured the atmosphere in beautifully hand-drawn sketches. Following a relaxed photo shoot, guests gathered for a sharing-plate wedding breakfast before the speeches were delivered.
For their first dance, the couple chose God Only Knows by The Beach Boys. “It then mixed into a more upbeat remix to get the party started,” says Segun. Live music and dancing continued into the small hours, fuelled, as he puts it, “in true Cornwall fashion, by a late-night delivery of Cornish pasties!”
One of the couple's favourite moments was seeing the dance floor packed with guests dancing to Candy in unison. Yet it was a more poignant moment that left the deepest impression. “A speech written by Imogen’s father before he sadly passed away a few weeks before the wedding was read by his close friend and Imogen’s godfather,” says Segun. “There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”
His advice to other couples? “Work out your non-negotiables early on. Everything else can fit around them.”
