Dartington Hall provides the perfect backdrop for bridal gowns designed in Devon

A breathtaking fusion of historic grandeur and natural beauty, Dartington Hall is nothing short of enchanting. Nestled on the edge of Totnes, its 14th-century medieval hall offers soaring timbered ceilings, a grand fireplace and striking architecture, while outside, Grade II-listed gardens unfold in a tapestry of ancient trees, colourful borders and sweeping countryside views across 800 acres.

From cherry blossom in the courtyard each spring and meadows brimming with flowers in summer to the candlelit romance of winter feasting, Dartington Hall is a year-round love story. It provides the perfect backdrop to showcase bespoke bridalwear by Lynsey Beardsmore of Dandelions and Pearls, lovingly designed and crafted just down the road in Torquay.

“The Vita gown was born from a moment of pure creative freedom,” says Lynsey. “Bold yet romantic, it reimagines history through a modern lens.” With architectural pannier-inspired hips and sculptural fabric lilies blossoming from fluid crepe, the gown strikes a silhouette that is both timeless and avant-garde. “Photographed against the rich, dark wood panelling of Dartington Hall, the dress comes alive in a dialogue between past and present – a gown for the modern bride who craves artistry as much as elegance.”

Among the romantic gardens, a second look showcases Lynsey’s mix-and-match bridal separates, where modern ease meets timeless charm. “A full pleated crepe skirt, complete with pockets and a sweeping train, offers effortless movement, while a cropped bustier and lace topper in glittering oversized florals bring a touch of whimsy,” she explains. “With its open back and billowing bell sleeves, the ensemble feels relaxed yet refined – perfect for the bride seeking contemporary romance in a natural setting.”

Also handcrafted in Torquay, dainty clay-flower-and-pearl earrings join a diamanté-studded crown and earrings by Claire Austin England to perfect the ensembles. Paired with bouquets of ethereal seasonal blooms, they create a vision of Devon bridal beauty at its most romantic.
