But, as every bride will testify, there's more to a wedding than picking a time and a place. There's the dress. And, with fashions fusing features, looks and influences, it might be tricky to locate a style that suits not only your individual taste and venue choice, but also date.
Since timing is everything, we've delved into each season and its key looks to help inspire you on your quest for 'the one'.

SPRING
A beautiful space to breathe and finally bid adieu to winter, spring weddings are all about celebrating new life, a new chapter of your love - and the first skin-baring trends from the catwalk.
It's also the perfect time to sport one of the biggest bridal trends of the moment: florals. Whether you opt for subtle style hints such as corsages, floral appliques and bohemian floral crowns or pack a statement with an oversized headdress teamed with a full and frothy floral skirt, the keynotes are seasonally striking.
Lace is a perennial trend and spring provides an ideal showcase for intricate designs, nude lace overlays and figure-hugging cuts in what still reigns as the most lusted-after fabric.
Then there's the other trend du jour: colour. With yellow (lemon, tangerine, custard) being a particularly apt forerunner, an array of fresh shades from sweet pastel tones to green (leaf, mint, lucite), blue (turquoise, classic, scuba) and pink (watermelon, pearl, blossom) all smack of sweet springtime style.
Add a cover-up to stave off the evening chill, or don elegant lace sleeves and a mid-length veil for a breeze-billowing air of drama.

SUMMER
An al fresco element features in most summer celebrations - and the latest fashions flaunt the longest days of the calendar with serious panache.
Take the ocean as your muse and choose from the array of mermaid cuts, floaty and light-as-air fabrics - especially tulle - and sea-coloured gowns and accessories for a fabulous look for a summer affair.
Spaghetti straps, sheer necklines, cut-out backs, slinky shifts and short hems all sport a sexy show of summer skin and provide a more daring aesthetic, whether you're going for a festival mood, seaside bash or exotic event.
Think off-the-shoulder necklines, scooped sweetheart bodices and wavy, flowing locks featuring flowers, dainty daisy chains or a '60s style headband for a beautiful beachy boho vibe.

AUTUMN
Late summer and autumn weddings provide brides with the best of both worlds - wildly colourful and atmospheric backdrops poised for winter magic, but with milder, Indian summer climes.
They also lend themselves perfectly to the layered luxe look, with era wear being an apt choice. Whether '50s silhouettes such as prom dresses, big petticoats and waist-cinching A and Y-lines, '70s glam in eye-catching metallics with a pillbox hat and veil or short shifts and softly draping embroidered dresses, autumn is prime time to sport some stunning bygone trends.
Add a modern, playful edge with a '60s-inspired pantsuit with a fabulous (fake) fur stole, a berry blush, champagne or rose gold coloured gown, or a jewel-encrusted princess gown with swathes of twirl-worthy taffeta, tulle and chiffon.
And don't forget the shoes: think peep-toe kitten heels, pointed toe or embellished flats, block heels or glittery stilettos. Pick Pantone's top shade of Marsala red for anything from the dress to the accessories - and the result is one crowd-wowing wedding outfit.

WINTER
The prospect of a winter wedding is utterly enchanting. Picture those roaring log fires, belly-warming cocktail classics and sumptuous sit-down feasts served in the candlelight as stormy skies linger overhead - and it's not difficult to see why the winter wedding has soared in popularity (and style status) the world over.
From statuesque ball gowns featuring oversized skirts with cascading frills, statement jewellery and floor-sweeping veils to standout colour schemes and themed events, winter weddings are a welcome seasonal spectacular.
Accentuate a sense of nostalgia with Victoriana design details, such as a high illusion neckline, long sleeves and a back bow. Create an air of romance in a fairytale gown complete with a full skirt and embroidered bodice. Or go for Gothic glamour with black accents, corsetry and a feather fascinator.
A decadent mood of vintage glamour makes for a sparkling seasonal look, or perhaps opt for a huge Disney style gown and set the stage for a modern fairytale with fashion-forward flair.
Experiment with your palette: consider vintage gold, green, grey and plum, mauve and Marsala purple for a head-turning and top-trending look.
