Hannah and George’s love story began back in 2013, sparked on a night out at the Barbican in Plymouth. Fast forward eight years, and George popped the question during a staycation in Cambridge in the summer of 2021. “George asked after dinner,” says Hannah. “I later found out he’d attempted several times during the day, but the rain kept hampering his plans! It was a complete surprise.”

The secluded country estate of Kilminorth was the perfect backdrop for a relaxed, weekend-long summer gathering. The aesthetic was effortlessly chic, defined by warm tones of orange, soft pink, yellow, rust and green. “You could call our colour scheme ‘summer sorbet’,” says Hannah. “We didn’t want much fuss – we just wanted the day to truly reflect our spirits.” Seasonal florals carried the palette beautifully, with abundant arrangements of textured blooms and blousy peonies adding a romantic softness to the setting.

Personal touches set the tone from the moment guests arrived. Each cottage was stocked with welcome hampers filled with tea, coffee, Hannah and George’s favourite snacks and a personalised wedding newspaper. “Our guests loved these extra details,” says Hannah.

Much of the décor was sourced and created by the couple themselves, including a DIY photo booth, a crowd-pleasing Aperol Spritz bar and a seating plan crafted from a wooden pallet and adorned with photos of every guest.

“Another detail we loved was our table plan,” explains Hannah. “George is a huge Plymouth Argyle fan, so we named the five tables after the stands at Argyle.” A keen gardener, she propagated succulents to style the tables in terracotta pots and grew over 60 spider plants as wedding favours. “Our guests loved them and often send me photos of how much they’ve grown!”

Festivities began on the Friday evening – pizzas, a quiz and a soak in the cottage hot tubs setting the tone for the weekend ahead. The wedding day itself dawned misty, but the skies cleared just in time for Hannah and George to exchange vows in the outdoor Chy Hos space. Dressed with flowing drapes, grasses and colourful summer blooms, it was a beautifully romantic setting. “I walked down the aisle with my grandad and mum to All of Me by John Legend,” says Hannah of her favourite moment of the day. “Seeing everyone there and George waiting at the front – that was magical.” The ceremony featured handwritten vows and a reading penned by the couple, inspired by their shared love of the film Interstellar.

After the vows, the newlyweds slipped away for photos while guests enjoyed canapés, drinks and live music. Celebrations then moved into the marquee for a feast of relaxed sharing boards – from chicken thigh shawarma and slow-cooked beef brisket to falafel, flatbreads and Greek salad. As dusk fell, live band The Busketeers filled the dance floor, before a silent disco kept revellers partying into the early hours.

One of the couple’s fondest memories came the following evening. “We sat around the firepit as the sun set, reminiscing about the night before. It was such a special way to end the weekend.”

Their advice for couples planning their own day? “Be sure of your theme before you start buying things and be true to yourselves – your wedding should reflect who you are as a couple.” Hannah adds: “Choose a venue where you really connect with the team. We fell in love with Kilminorth as soon as we visited. The team were amazing – we can’t thank them enough for what was truly the best weekend of our lives.”
