Hannah and Josh first laid eyes on each other in a bar in Brixton. “Josh was moving to Australia five weeks later, so we made the most of the time we had,” reveals Hannah. “We stayed in touch and a few months later met up in Bali for a holiday – during which we decided that I’d move out to Sydney to join him. It was a whirlwind!”
Josh proposed to Hannah after the couple had returned to London and it was a case of love at first sight when the couple set eyes on Boconnoc. “From the minute we arrived we knew it was the perfect venue for us,” she says. “We were able to bring in all of our suppliers, which meant that our wedding was completely unique to us.”
Enlisting the planning and styling services of Rebecca Marie, the couple drew on the setting and season to inspire the day's aesthetic. “We chose Boconnoc for its beauty, so decided to build on that - choosing colours to reflect the Georgian building and spring flowers – lots of neutrals, dusky pinks and whites.” explains Hannah.
The floristry was instrumental in creating the look she envisioned, featuring textured and blousy blooms in muted tones. "As a final special touch, our florist Grace sourced a beautiful white orchid for my bouquet as a nod to my upbringing in Singapore," says Hannah.
The couple's "romantic and timeless" vision was achieved in the reception space through an abundance of roses, tall tapered candles, oat coloured linens, stoneware crockery and gold rimmed glasses
Hosting a weekend of celebrations, guests were greeted with a welcome dinner on the Friday complete with a pizza truck, Cornish ice cream trike and steel buckets of rosé. The next morning, Hannah donned her dazzling custom gown for a church ceremony at Boconnoc. “I walked down the aisle with my dad and bridesmaids to To Build A Home played beautifully our string quartet,” she says. “One of my favourite moments was surprising Josh with a poem I had written for him, read by my oldest friend.”
Drinks and canapés on the lawn ensued, after which the speeches (and a mid-dinner R&B set) were delivered during a sit-down supper featuring herb crusted hake and local lamb with family style sides to share. “Sitting at the table during the wedding breakfast, listening to the speeches and looking round at all of our closest family and friends feeling immense gratitude,” reveals Hannah of the couple’s favourite moment. “There’s no feeling like it!”
Everyone enjoyed cocktails and pavlova on the lawn as the sun was setting before the newlyweds kicked off an evening of merriment with their first dance to Elton John’s Are You Ready For Love. “The following morning, we hosted guests for coffees and pastries on the lawn before heading off for a family lunch, then set off on Safari the next day for our honeymoon,” says Hannah.
“Follow your instinct, and spend your efforts on the meaningful touches”she advises other couples in the throes of planning. “Everyone says it, but take a moment for yourselves on the day - you'll remember it forever!”
