Woodland Wonder, Wedding at Sconner Down, Cornwall

'We're from the same town in Cornwall and were set up by one of our bridesmaids when we were teenagers,' reveals Charlotte of her and Scott's long-held romantic roots. 'We've been together for 13 years now.'

It was on their 10-year anniversary that Scott surprised Charlotte with tickets to see one of their favourite singers, Dermot Kennedy, in concert. 'During our favourite song entitled 'An Evening I Will Not Forget', Scott got down on one knee and proposed,' swoons Charlotte. 'It was perfect, we both cried our eyes out ' and now the song has even more reason to be memorable.'

When it came to a wedding venue, the couple fell for Sconner Down in Polbathic, 'as the options were endless in being able to turn two meadows into an outdoor relaxed summer wedding setting,' explains Charlotte. 'We hadn't seen a venue like it before, although the woodlands were the feature that took our breaths away. We hired the venue for the weekend and did everything DIY.'

Using their rural surrounds as the starting point for their styling, Charlotte and Scott designed a scene replete with colour and wild flowers, which enhanced Sconner Down's natural boho and rustic vibe. 'We love festivals and live music, which inspired my bridal party to throw me a Glastonbury-themed hen do,' says Charlotte. 'We continued this theme by hiring a tipi village as accommodation and nicknaming the day 'Glastonshirley' as my married name is Shirley!'

'We met with Grace, our celebrant, in 2019 and we instantly knew she was the person we wanted to marry us. Having a celebrant meant our ceremony was able to be as unique as we are,' says Charlotte. 'Grace told our love story to all our friends and family adding in our favourite songs throughout, and for our vows we wrote a promise to one another. The sun shone at all the right times and our guests have told us it felt magical to watch such a personalised ceremony in a unique woodland setting.'

Guests gathered in the marquee for a sit-down meal of antipasti with a selection of meats, cheeses and Mediterranean appetisers to start. A sumptuous trio of vegan, mixed seafood, and chicken and chorizo paellas was rounded off with a wedding cake dessert in the tantalising flavours of chocolate, lemon drizzle and Lotus Biscoff.

Then it was time for the speeches, a performance by live band, Stone Roots, and one of Scott's personal highlights: watching England qualify for the Euro 2020 semi-finals on the big screen!

'For football-obsessed Scott, having England play on our wedding day and then winning 4-0 really was the cherry on the cake!' laughs Charlotte. 'For me, having every guest on their feet when our saxophonist came on was euphoric. After not being able to party for over a year, it felt amazing!'

When asked how her experience might be used to help other couples successfully plan their day, Charlotte says: 'Review your budget regularly as it's surprising how things can add up or what you can be savvy in saving money on. And each month, try to complete tasks you can do in advance, such as creating dÃ©cor when organising a DIY wedding.'
