The view of wedding dresses today is of multi-dimensional, all-angles fashion and as a result, the back is receiving a great degree of designers' attention. It's not just how you appear from the front that matters anymore, with every inch of bridal fashion being considered to create maximum impact, from jaw dropping necklines to sexy side panels and - as many a recent runway has shown - backs that illustrate incredible style.
Skin-baring is one of the leading looks, with scooped, deep V-backs and backless styles giving brides instant sex appeal, especially if otherwise covered up by a high neck, full skirt and long sleeves. Elegant drapery is another feature that nods to the trend toward movement and volume, while ruffled edges, thin spaghetti and cross-over straps and keyhole backs all lend a little fashionable edge to your derriere.
For a more subtle take on statement backs, opt for a cowl back, portrait back framed by modern lace like tattoo and geometric, or a sheer back adorned with intricate botanical embroidery and beadwork.
If you're not keen on the idea of exposed flesh but still fancy sprucing up the back of your dress, there's a number of easy and fashion-forward ways to customise it. Shoulder ribbons that stream down over the back can work instead of or in addition to a veil, while back bows that sit at the base of your gown (the more oversized, the better) are another en vogue addition. Hand-stitched buds, a scattering of sparkle and ornate capes are other ways to achieve the uber sultry look.
