Bickleigh Castle

Tiverton, Tel: 01884 855 363 |

There are many reasons people choose Bickleigh Castle for their wedding.  Some people just have their heart set on getting married in a castle. For others it’s the beautiful little thatched Chapel, the tranquil location in the picturesque Devon countryside or simply the warmth and intimacy the castle evokes in them.

People who have arrived at the Castle as brides to be and left as brides use words such as ‘magical’, ‘enchanting’ and ‘romantic’, which are all things we work hard to ensure your wedding is on the day.

The Great Hall, which you would use for your ceremony, evokes a powerful atmosphere whatever time of year and comes complete with a fully accessible Tudor paneled minstrels’ gallery (ideal for musicians and photographers), enormous windows and huge stone fireplace (with a wonderful roaring fire in winter), and seats 120.

If you prefer a traditional church ceremony, there is a particularly lovely church close by, from which couples often journey back to the Castle in a horse drawn carriage or in one of the Castle’s two classic Rolls-Royces.

In 2015 we are also delighted to be able to offer you the opportunity to get married outside, on the lovely and spacious lawn right next to the river and Chapel.

The banqueting room can seat 40 - 120 guests for your wedding breakfast, whilst the Orangery, Mews Sitting Room and Bar present the perfect scene for your evening celebrations.

Alternatively there are several places suitable for a marquee within the Castle’s gardens should you require more space.  Likewise if you are having a very intimate wedding with less than 40, you can choose from some alternative spaces to suit you.

You have access to an unusual amount of accommodation for a Castle, with 17 bedrooms sleeping a total of 40 situated in our beautiful thatched cottages, which surround the Castle Courtyard.  All the bedrooms have en-suites except the family apartment, which has a separate bathroom and are prettily decorated and furnished in a cottage style.

You have your own private Tudor Bridal suite, complete with its enormous and beautifully carved four-poster bed situated next to the Great Hall.

Should you wish their involvement, we have a fantastic wedding team, including a Toastmaster and an on site Chef, who have a wealth of experience and ideas, to help create the wedding of your dreams.   If you prefer to organize everything yourself, you can have as much or as little help from the team as you wish. Either way, you will have your own personal wedding planner to support you when needed and to be there on your big day.

Tucked away in the heart of the Devon countryside, the Castle snuggles within the Exe Valley surrounded by trees, fields and rivers.  Its peaceful, picturesque and romantic surroundings have inspired many a writer, poet and artist, yet the Castle is also only 15 minutes away from M5 J27, 2.5 hours direct train from London, with Tiverton & Taunton Railway Stations, and Bristol & Exeter airports within easy reach.
