Say goodbye to your wedding in style! Wed reveals some wow-worthy ways to make an extraordinary exit...

It all starts with a bang! The camera is rolling, the music is cued, the guests stand to attention and, with bated breath, the gathered throng crane their necks to catch a glimpse of white satin. All eyes are on the bride as she makes her first few tentative steps towards her groom. It's a strong opening -but what about the close? Somehow, in the swift evolution of the wedding event, one element of the traditional celebration has taken a backseat: the exit.

Hollywood still portrays the classic departure of the newly-weds to a crowd of cheering, tearful loved ones, perhaps in a convertible, the words 'just married' scrawled across the boot; or it might be at a train station, the bride's white hanky fluttering through an open window as the engine pulls away. No doubt images such as this deliver the rather neat happily ever after ending sought by the romance-hungry audience, but can Tinseltown provide any lasting inspiration for couples about to head into and out of the limelight?

Whether you intend on shimmying into the small hours, extending your nuptial fun to create a wedding weekend or making a quick exit straight after the vows, your married life starts with a journey. How you choose to wave farewell to those fancy-free days should be a lot like your signature: personal, distinctive and unique. In a world of possibility, picking your perfect mode of marital transport can be tricky. Therefore, with the movies as our muse, allow WED to give you a chauffeur driven guided tour of trucks, traps and other trend-setting travel options...

THE GREAT ESCAPE

If the image of Steve McQueen soaring through the air - clearing a fence in one smooth movement, perched ever so coolly on the padded leather of a classic motorbike - is one that gives you a secret thrill, be inspired. Even if the stunt acrobatics and matching leathers seem a little too brazen for the end of your party, you can still speed away in style with a hired motorcycle. From the lusty grunts of a classic Harley to the continental charm of a scooter, companies such as Cornish Classics can provide you and your partner with the right mode of moped to catch the breeze as you hit the Atlantic Highway. See www.cornishclassics.co.uk for details.

UP!

This one requires a little planning, but the result is spectacular. Companies such as Aerosaurus Balloons, which operates throughout the South West, accept private bookings to whisk you up, up and away into the air for the ride of your life! What better way to wave farewell to your guests, than gliding skyward with your partner? It's an aerial photo opportunity that you'll treasure forever and a chance to make memories you'll never forget. For more information, visit www.ballooning.co.uk

FLY AWAY HOME

If the prospect of being whisked away in a more dramatic fashion ticks your boxes, this option allows for a little more flexibility and definitely makes a statement. Not for the faint-hearted, helicopter travel is for the thrill-seekers and the chic and sleek among you. It needn't be hair-raising, but it's likely to be hair-messing, so consider your outfit before boarding. Companies such as Rise Helicopters and Castle Air offer private hire as chauffeur service between multiple venues or as the farewell vehicle for the special couple. www.risehelicopters.co.uk/wedding-helicopter

CAST AWAY

The best thing about island living is the sea. Our coastal communities offer a wealth of waterway transport that can transform your day from idyllic landscape to life on the ocean wave. With regular departures between popular routes (such as Falmouth - St Mawes) and classic boats for private hire, it couldn't be easier to organise your fond farewell. You might even consider including a leisurely tour with your friends and family aboard one of the many charter boats, before setting off into the sunset, perhaps to stay at one of the countless beautiful hotels located on the coastline. There are plenty of companies to choose from, but for a good introduction, start at www.falriver.co.uk/charter/boat-hire-and-charter/weddings

FOOTLOOSE

The choreographed wedding dance set trend records when the wedding community first embraced the 'Dirty Dancing' phenomenon, and it's not going anywhere yet! If the prospect of taking your partner by the hand and leading him/her to the dancefloor leaves you a little nervous, then think outside the box. In fact, think outside the venue. As the time to leave draws near, the well wishing has begun, the hardest part is over and there really is nothing to lose! A quick change of shoes is all you need to trip the light fantastic with your guys and gals strategically arranged to back you up (if you'll allow backing dancers) or cover you (if you'd like to make a quick getaway). Limited resources are required here: an outside boom box and perhaps a few hours watching YouTube!

Whichever way you decide to go, make it fun, keep it a secret and give it some zing!
