Wedding at Two Bridges Hotel, Devon

A Moorland Love Story

The historic Two Bridges Hotel was the venue for Victoria and Chris' English country garden wedding

A series of chance encounters proved fortuitous for Victoria and Chris. "We kept bumping into each other over the years and finally had a proper conversation at Jelly Jazz, exchanged numbers and the rest is history!" says Victoria. Six years later, Chris chose a poignant setting to pop the question. "We were quite into going for walks on the moors at that point so he chose to ask me on top of Sourton Tor, which is exactly in between where our families live," explains Victoria.

The couple chose another stirringly beautiful Dartmoor location for their wedding celebration: the historic Two Bridges Hotel, which is flanked by idyllic grounds and moorland vistas beyond. Designing their day around an English country garden theme and a palette of confetti pastel shades, they decorated the venue with an array of colourful pom-poms and muted blooms in glittery vessels.

Victoria paired her stunning strapless lace gown with a bouquet of cream, white, soft pink and peach blooms, including gypsophila and sweet peas, which echoed the soft pink tone of the Grecian bridesmaid dresses.

Victoria was happy to see rainfall on the morning of the wedding. "It rained as we both made our way to church. At one point, I was even worried about it not raining as I have heard it is supposed to be good luck!" she says. "The weather cleared to blue skies as my father and I drove through Tavistock and the rest of the day stayed absolutely perfect!"

After the ceremony at St Eustachius Church, the newly-weds relished the car journey across the moor to Two Bridges. "It was the first moment we had to ourselves as bride and groom. It was great to finally have a chat after what seemed like days apart and have a giggle at how nervous we both were that morning," recalls Victoria.

Guests savoured the views and warm ambience of Two Bridges as they enjoyed welcome drinks and canapes. The delectable feast that followed included the sumptuous likes of goat's cheese mousse, Devon pork, Creedy Carver chicken and Loch Duart salmon, rounded off with white chocolate and honeycomb mousse and vanilla crme brlee.

A personalised playlist provided the soundtrack for the evening reception. "My Dad is very enthusiastic with his PA system, so we were able to create a playlist and have a great time listening to music we knew all out guests would enjoy!" says Victoria.

Reflecting on her moorland wedding, Victoria advocates taking some time out to savour the day together. "Everyone will want to congratulate you and have a chat but with so many people it can be difficult to get a moment to yourselves. We needed a team talk every now and then to discuss the day and share stories," she comments.
