Peaches and Ponies

A New Year's Eve encounter in Bristol led to romance for Lorraine and Dan. Five years after that fateful night, Dan popped the question in spectacularly starry-eyed style under the Eiffel Tower during a surprise trip to Paris. "For the proposal, he sought a vintage padlock which we locked to the bridge, throwing the key into the Seine in line with a Parisian tradition," recalls Lorraine. "On our return to London, he bought me an antique yellow and white diamond cluster ring dating from 1880."

Located on the edge of Dartmoor, The Edgemoor Country House Hotel was booked exclusively for their country wedding and decorated in a sweet palette of peaches, corals and greens.

Lorraine's simple floaty frock was customised with new straps and a hand beaded sash, which echoed her handmade beaded headband. Dan teamed his bespoke light grey suit from Savile Row with a Liberty print tie to reflect the day's colour scheme.

The pair uttered their vows under a gazebo in the gardens, with Lorraine making her grand entrance to their favourite song 'Big Big Love' by Foals. "My friend at Sony had edited and looped the intro to fit perfectly with the relaxed ambience," she says.

The ceremony signified both Lorraine and Dan's favourite moment, as she explains: "It was so beautiful to have it outside in the stunning gardens of The Edgemoor Hotel, and the set-up was perfect as we could easily see all
of our family and friends and have all our favourite music playing."

The newly-weds stole a few moments to themselves before reappearing to a deluge of confetti and al fresco champagne and canapes. They then ventured to Haytor for photographs against the moorland backdrop. "A group of wild ponies, who were very friendly and rather inquisitive, wanted to be in the majority of the photos so we let them!" says Lorraine.

Brimming with locally sourced fare such as Dartmouth smoked fish platter, locally farmed sirloin of beef and warm chocolate brownie with clotted cream, the wedding breakfast was designed to suit the couple's individual tastes. While the entertainment was being set up, guests relocated for coffee in the gardens where they were treated to a spellbinding sunset, returning to dance the night away to a playlist of party classics courtesy of a local DJ.

Lorraine and Dan escaped to the exotic Maldives for a five-star honeymoon, which they hotly recommend. "Our top tip for a great wedding is to stretch as far as you can for the honeymoon - you won't regret it!" says Lorraine. "We had a dream holiday."

"Also, try and spend as much time together as you can on the day, and ideally try to get away for a private hour together. The day will go so fast and everyone will be fighting to get your attention so don't forget that it's your wedding and enjoy the moment with the person you decided to marry!"
