A Twist of Fete

Hannah and Shane's coastal wedding at Polpier House

Hannah and Shane married in Mevagissey on a hot summer's day. From the pretty church of St Peter's to the luxurious climes of Polpier House, the fishing village - with its quaint harbour, jumble of cottages and ocean vistas - made for a beautiful backdrop to the couple's country garden themed celebration.

"We chose pale pastel colours for our decor, which included hand-painted chairs in pink, blue and cream with streams of ribbon on the back, trestle tables, lots of homemade bunting and hay bales," explains Hannah.

Hannah's own bridal attire - a full-skirted confection of tulle and lace - echoed the romantic aesthetic, as did her bridesmaids' flowing mint green frocks. Beautiful floral arrangements featuring pale pink peonies, white avalanche roses, pink lisianthus and gypsophila completed the pretty picture.

After the ceremony - where Hannah and Shane's dogs Teddy and Betty were guests of honour - everyone relocated to Polpier House for Pimm's and afternoon tea in the sunshine. Continuing the relaxed vibe, a barbecue was served later in the evening where a delicious array of chicken, sausages, burgers and salads was followed by chocolate mousse and lemon posset served in vintage china teacups.

The Pirates of St Piran provided memorable afternoon entertainment. "They arrived 'all guns blazing' and kidnapped my bridesmaid Sian," says Hannah. "They passed a bucked around for donations for the RNLI to get her released which was great fun, and then sang sea shanties." Illuminating Polpier to magical effect, DJ John Green filled the dance floor with his party playlist as night fell. "As it was feast week in Mevagissey, we all watched the harbour fireworks on the lawn and we gave all our guests sparklers," recalls Hannah. "Standing behind everyone on the lawn hand in hand with Shane watching the fireworks was my favourite moment of the day," she adds.

Sticking to your convictions is at the fore of Hannah's top tips. "Remember it's your day so do what you want to do - you have to accept that you can't please everyone," she affirms. "Make sure you're a team throughout the entire process, and have a video made - you can look back on the day and relive it over and over and you will see things that you've missed or forgotten."
