Wedding at Lanyon Cottages

Fabulously Fifties

Georgina and James first met in the winter of 2008 in Val d' Isere while working as chalet chefs. "James was the well travelled ski-bum and I was the escaping graduate!" reflects Georgina.

Three years later, James asked her to marry him at the Babylon Restaurant in Kensington Rooftop Gardens and planning kicked off for their weekend-long wedding celebrations.

Opting for a vintage mood with 1950s' touches and a colour scheme of blues and sea greens, everything from the baby blue 1960s split screen samba to the bunting and paper pompoms adorning the marquee carried the design of the day.

Georgina wore a bespoke Candy Anthony gown, with a fabulous '50s style skirt, sheer polka dot overlay and pale blue sash, which she teamed with elegant heels and a glamorous vintage hairstyle. Her head bridesmaid also donned a Candy Anthony frock in light teal silk, while James's bespoke powder blue suit echoed the palette and relaxed, playful style of the day.

The "short and sweet" ceremony took place at St. Gothians Church in Gwithian. "We couldn't stop smiling at each other throughout the whole thing!" says Georgina. "Our vicar Sharon Clifton really made our ceremony very special for us. She had everyone laughing and cheering in the aisles."

The newly-weds enjoyed some sun-kissed moments posing for photographs on the sands of Godrevy, while guests made their way to Lanyon Cottages where they were greeted with salt and pepper squid washed down with Prosecco. A wedding breakfast of Italian porchetta with peperonata, Parmesan roasted potatoes and artisan breads was rounded off in delectable style with his 'n' hers desserts of tiramisu and chocolate mousse with chocolate-dipped strawberries.

In the evening, guests clutched pasties from St Ives Bakery as they danced to the grooves of live band Sandy Acre 7 and DJ Andre Jones who spun the decks into the early hours.

"Our first dance was totally off the cuff and we hadn't even spoken about how we were going do it, but when the band fired up we were ready to let our hair down and couldn't wait to get on the dance floor!" recalls Georgina. "Our guests still believe we had choreographed the whole thing, but we just went with the atmosphere and revelled in the moment!"

The next day, guests gathered at Godrevy Beach to continue the celebrations with a laid-back day of surfing and beach games.

"Both of us worked hard to make our wedding our own with various handmade touches and we have all of our friends and family to thank for helping us bring it all together in time", says Georgina. "Our advice would be don't be shy about asking for help. Just don't forget to step back on the day and admire everything you have achieved!"
