Happily Ever After

Amy and James celebrated their love of the countryside in an idyllic spot on the edge of Dartmoor at Ever After

A mutual friend introduced Amy and James in 2008. Friendship soon blossomed into romance and, after a proposal in Bath, the pair set about planning their dream Devon wedding.

Amy and James knew exactly where they wished to celebrate their union. "We both hail from Devon and both our families live on Dartmoor so there was never any doubt where we would take our vows," explains Amy. "We shared the vision of having a wedding that reflected our love of the beautiful British countryside, of nature, and of good food and wine," she elaborates.

In keeping with the highly personal mood of the day, the couple chose to marry at Amy's parents' church in Buckland Monachorum; it was the reception space, however, that proved particularly standout as the backdrop to their rustic and romantic celebration. "Our delectable eco-luxe reception venue Ever After enabled us to transform the wedding that only existed in our dreams into a reality seamlessly and without any stress," enthuses Amy.

A series of handmade details helped to achieve the natural aesthetic of the day. Amy's parents crafted drinks coasters using Dartmoor furze wood, which doubled as much talked-about favours. The rest of the decor was simple yet striking, such as the hurricane vase centrepieces containing ivy delicately woven around candles.

The flowers struck another memorable chord. Orchids from Asia were added to Amy's bouquet to reflect where she grew up as a child, while shamrock featured in James' buttonhole as a nod to his Irish heritage. Amy wore a beautiful Ritva Westenius gown, while James looked dapper in a traditional morning suit.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed tiny fish and chips canapes and Prosecco, and mingled in the gardens over a selection of games; Amy and James, meanwhile, stole a few moments together as they ventured into the surrounding woodland for photographs.

The delectable wedding breakfast included sharing platters brimming with fish cakes, butterflied sardines and goat's cheese, followed by Devon Ruby beef and vanilla panna cotta, raspberries, lime jelly, honeycomb and crme fraiche sorbet. A set from live band The Normals and a personalised playlist provided the soundtrack for an evening of dancing, chatter and high jinks under the stars.

"To pick favourite moments from the day is a tough one as the whole day was like a dream come true!" reflects Amy. "However, one moment that was really special to me was during the speeches. I remember looking out across the room thinking how incredible it was to have all our family and friends - the people that we love and are so important to us all - there under one roof celebrating our love. That's pretty cool!"
