Wedding at The Watergate Bay Hotel

Surf and Sunflowers

Introduced by Jill’s house mate on a night out in Swindon, Jill and Alex hit it off immediately and quickly arranged to meet again on a group night out in Oxford. As Jill comments, “the rest is history as they say!” They decided to get married after living together for three years.

“We wanted to get married in Cornwall because we had spent a lot of time there together as we are both keen surfers,” explains Jill. Alex’s mother also owns a holiday home in St Merryn, so the county holds a lot of fond memories for the couple.

A relaxed flip-flop theme and a colour scheme of brown and yellow perfectly complimented the beautiful coastal surroundings. “Sunflowers have always been my favourite flowers as they have such a happy feel”, says Jill – and the striking blooms made a dazzling accent to the beachside celebrations. The bride’s “perfect” dress was found in a little wedding dress shop in Cirencester. Jill described it as “very simple and would go perfectly with the feel of the day”.

The ceremony was held at The Hotel, Watergate Bay and, after toasting the nuptials with drinks and canapés, the newlyweds and their guests travelled to Lusty Glaze in a red London Bus to continue the celebrations.

Deciding against a formal wedding breakfast, Jill, Alex and their guests feasted on a hog roast and paella. Entertainment came from musician Jake Hall, whose laidback music complimented the vibe perfectly, followed by an I-pod disco. Later in the evening, everyone tucked into Cornish pasties and released Chinese lanterns on the beach.

An epic honeymoon took in the sights of Sydney, a campervan adventure up the east coast of Australia and the buzz of Hong Kong.

The advice they gave to future brides and grooms is simply to, “Take time out from everything on the day just to be together. I know everyone says the same but it all goes by so quickly.”
