From mood-enhancing lighting to a new take on colours, Elle Winsor Grime of Inspire Hire gives us a rundown on the latest ways to style your big day

The only way is up. The trend for ceiling installations started to gain momentum in 2015 and looks set to grow this year. Floral chandeliers and hanging floral displays look stunning, whether your venue is a barn, an industrial space or a marquee. Maybe create an elegant dining area with groups of chandeliers above your tables, or how about a wonderful greenhouse feel with lots of hanging baskets suspended above your guests' heads?

Paper pretty. I'm a huge fan of making your wedding stationery part of the decor - paper goods can beautifully enhance your tablescape and the overall look of your wedding decor. Modern calligraphy continues to be hugely popular, as do geometric patterns and painterly effects. Quirky and personalised signage and monograms are also super-stylish.

Fabulous focal points. Wow your guests with feature areas: you might use your table plan or follow the US trend for escort card tables to make a statement with a huge floral display and something special to show your guests the way to their seats. The same goes for your cake table - don't just go for a table covered with a white cloth to display your beautiful cake - think supersize for this too!

Chic seats. Create comfortable seating areas with beautiful sofas and armchairs for your guests to relax both inside and out. Go vintage with heirloom furniture or strike a cool vibe with modern designer pieces.

Luxe lighting. Beautiful feature lighting creates ambience and totally changes the atmosphere in a room or marquee throughout the day. Think about statement pieces such as giant chandeliers, festoon lights, neon signs and lots of outdoor lighting for ambience after dark.

Colour of love. 2016 will see a more relaxed approach to colour - think about a whole palette of complimentary colours and textures rather than 'matching' colours. Even Pantone has chosen two key colours for 2016 rather than the usual single one (the warm pink shade of Rose Quartz and cool blue tone of Serenity).

Age of elegance. Elegant design concepts are proving more popular for 2016 than the vintage and rustic aesthetic of previous years. Think beautiful footed urns rather than jam jars; subtle textured, patterned or coloured table linen rather than hessian runners and foliage garlands instead of bunting.

Personal party. Personalisation is key to the modern wedding: couples are increasingly including details that represent their personalities, their history and their relationship - this can be reflected in your food choices, design concept, favours, drinks, music and lots more.

Green day.
Many couples are bringing the outside in and embracing a botanical feel for their wedding by using lots of foliage rather than flowers.

Stylish ceremonies. The new trend for feature ceremony areas is set to be huge. I'm currently working on designs for 'living' floral lined aisles and stunning feature backdrops such as tree trunk arches and curtains of festoon lighting. The possibilities for ceremony decor are endless!
