From subtle texture to a sentimental finish, pick a pattern for a forever-worthy wedding ring
The modern wedding is all about personality. From the cake to the cufflinks, every detail is carefully considered to say something about the day - or the newly-weds themselves. It's little wonder, then, that couples are increasingly seeking a similarly distinctive statement for their wedding rings. It is, after all, the one memento of your marriage you'll be wearing long after those cake crumbs have been devoured.
If you've got a penchant for pattern, prepare to be spoilt for choice with the sheer choice now available. From subtle grooves to elaborate designs, there's a style for every taste. "An alternative to traditional designs, patterned wedding rings are the perfect way to express your personality and embrace your individual style," advises Nicola of Drakes. "Available in a choice of metals and designs, unique patterns make a real statement. They are a great way to add an extra style dimension, particularly when paired with a classic or simple engagement ring."
A ring embellished with grooves or a bevelled edge makes for a sleek and contemporary statement, while the subtle elegance of a millgrain detail offers a stylish nod to vintage style. Or you might choose something more decorative; think Celtic knots, fancy florals or a smattering of gemstones.
Or how about a little texture? Designer-maker Justin Duance uses various techniques to create beautiful textured rings infused with meaning, from the gentle texture of his hammered rings to the distinctive aesthetic of his 'Rock Rings', which offer a finish reminiscent of our cliffscape. He also uses a sand-casting technique whereby molten metal is poured into tiny moulds made of sand -you can even supply your own sand from a special beach for greater sentimentality. Or how about incorporating a wooden inlay sourced from a poignant place for echoing a rich sense of heritage and place?
An inscription is, of course, is a popular way of personalising your rings. Opt for initials, your wedding date or a favourite quote. You might even have your fingerprints cast on the rings for a symbolic statement as distinctive as your love - and, indeed, your wedding!
