Wedding Catering Cornwall - Children's Menu

Grub's Up

Serve the kids an appetising menu of familiar dishes they’ll relish tucking into.

Planning your wedding menu promises to be one of the most delicious decisions you’ll make between the proposal and the big day. But while you deliberate over the jus for your steak, the seasoning for your lamb shank or the ice cream flavour to complement your chocolate torte – don’t forget to pay some consideration to the tastes of the little folk.

Chances are, they won’t fully appreciate the delights of stuffed mushrooms or smoked salmon – so treat them to a little of what they fancy. Not only will a spread of familiar foods keep the children happy, a child-friendly menu is generally a whole lot cheaper than a standard menu, thus easing the strain on your budget.

It might be worth providing snacks for children during the drinks reception. Children don’t tend to handle hunger as well as adults and cranky, irritable kiddies is almost a given during the agonising period between the ceremony and the meal. Arrange for them to be given small bags of cookies, crackers or dried fruit to maintain their energy levels – and smiles – while their parents indulge in the canapés and bubbly. Avoid artificial colourings and e-numbers where possible to minimise the chances of hyperactive behaviour.

Consider setting up a children’s table in your reception venue. This will provide young guests with a base for their social activities, while reassuring parents of their offspring’s whereabouts. Ensure the table looks fun and appealing: deck it out with colouring books and pencils, toys, games and activity sets to keep them occupied during the most tedious moments of the reception – i.e. the speeches.

Taking the motto, ‘if the children are happy, everyone is happy’, The Round Kitchen Catering Company has created a tried and tested menu of sweet and savoury treats to satisfy their taste buds – and keep the little darlings fuelled for the evening party.
