Your wedding day will be packed full of highs - but you've got to go some to rival the dizzying high that is the drinks reception. Imagine it: you and your new spouse are revelling in the first heady flush of marriage, the nerves are dissipating and a packed programme of fun is to come. For your guests, it's the first chance to relax, mingle and enjoy a glass of something celebratory.
This is your moment to truly wow them - to delight their taste buds before they've even laid eyes on the seating plan, to set the mood for the delicious wedding breakfast to come, and to kick off the merriment in style. Avoid serving flutes of forgettable fizz and bland canapes and pore some thought into a selection of perfectly paired drinks and bite-sized delights.
Whether you're following a culinary theme based on the cuisine of your roots or favourite places, or serving up a wish list of your best-loved dishes, the drinks reception is an opportunity to extend your theme, to celebrate our delicious produce here in Cornwall and to be a little adventurous - perhaps serve a selection of foods and drinks you deemed too bold for the wedding breakfast.
Lucy Turner and Sarah Wright of The Round Kitchen have devised a menu of utterly delicious cocktails, canapes and nibbles to inspire a daringly delicious drinks reception. We're talking the divine likes of Tarquin's Gin blended with grapefruit and orange zest and served with confit orange duck sweet potato drop pancake; spiced dark rum and vanilla blended with stem ginger syrup served with Cajun salt cod open burgers; and tequila cafe, chocolate liqueur and raspberry syrup served with tequila-soaked charred pineapple cubes. From fruity flavours to rich and velvety, from savoury nibbles to scrumptious sweet treats - their menu offers a series of pairings to delight the taste buds and, quite possibly, make your drinks reception the highlight of the day - except for the "I do" moment, of course.
