It's Only Natural

Despite both coming from the same town - Launceston - Emily and Rich had to go to Newquay to find each other. "We met at a bar in Newquay in 2006. I was out with some girlfriends and dressed as a French maid!" laughs Emily.

The scene of many a loved-up Valentine's Day and weekend wander, Rich decided St Ives was the perfect place to propose. "Rich arranged a three-day break to St Ives for New Year's 2011/2012. On New Year's Day, we went for a walk and he proposed at the end of Smeaton's Pier!"

Their hometown, however, seemed the natural place to get married. Opting for a rustic country theme and a palette of natural, muted colours, Emily walked down the aisle of Werrington Church with an entourage of bridesmaids dressed in blush pink and dapper page boys, whose brown bow ties echoed Rich's brown morning suit. Emily, meanwhile, looked the picture of elegance in a one-off Eliza Jane Howell gown teamed with pearls and diamond earrings - a gift she had opened from Rich that morning. Her bouquet of roses, lisianthus, gypsophila and eucalyptus echoed the pretty colour scheme.

The newly-weds roared off in their Triumph Stag, driving through a country estate for photographs before heading for Widemouth Bay. "We didn't have the roof on the Stag and I was watching thick grey clouds the whole way, hoping it wouldn't rain!" recalls Emily.

Their marquee reception took place at Whalesborough Farm, a sublime spot overlooking the bay. Dressed with striking flowers in the form of tall gypsophila table displays, the marquee was awash with rustic details, from the bunting to the cake decorated with hessian and flowers.

A wedding breakfast of slow-roasted belly pork proved a tasty way of breaking the ice. "This was served on a large slate to each table for the guests to carve and serve themselves to make it more sociable," explains Emily. A dessert of chocolate delice and deconstructed pavlova made for a mouth-watering dessert.

Rich's speech comprised the highlight of the day for Emily: "He wrote an amazing poem and had the marquee in tears - including some men!" she recalls, while an impromptu trip to the beach with his new wife - complete with a cheeky bottle of Moët - made for one of Rich's most memorable moments.

Returning to the party, Jonah's Lift provided an uptempo soundtrack and ceilidh for the evening reception, which proved, as Emily comments, "the perfect way to get people involved and up dancing."

Both Emily and Rich have words of wisdom for budding brides and grooms. "It's impossible to be too organised too early, but when the morning arrives just go with the flow," advises Rich. Emily affirms: "Find time in the evening to have five minutes together and savour the day; you could easily spend the evening apart talking to different people."
