Armed with a vision for a wedding that would "feel like a giant house party", Kasey and Zak's search for a UK venue to hold their week-long celebration led them to Trewidden House.
Wallpaper designer Kasey opted for a rich spectrum of autumnal colours for the colour scheme, tied together with metallic gold. "As an unusual 'tablecloth', we used hundreds of gold tinsel garlands and draped them over the table. I thought it would look amazing, like dining atop streams of gold-leaf, and it did!" she says. Floral arrangements woven with thistles, pineapples and wine bottle candleholders spray-painted with metallic gold adorned the celebration space. "Vintage mismatched china added to the eccentric house party feel," adds Kasey.
Dating back to the 1890s, Kasey's wedding dress was purchased at a vintage fashion auction in New York; as well as some reconstruction work, it was altered to make it backless and add sleeves. In keeping with the country mood, Zak wore a custom-made green tweed suit.
Accordion music and champagne preceded Kasey and Zak's outdoor ceremony in a scenic spot overlooking the gardens. After a champagne reception, guests settled at the glinting tables for a feast served on vintage china platters. "This made the whole room feel like a big party - sharing food really helped guests become quick friends," comments Kasey. Dishes included seafood platters, mezze platters and roast lamb. In keeping with the personal vibe, Kasey's sister Whitney made the wedding cake using one of Kasey's wallpaper designs, while her mother and aunt made plum preserve favours from the family orchard in Utah.
Live band Connect Five saw everyone hit the dance floor, with a highlight of the evening revelry being Kasey and Zak's karaoke rendition of Sonny and Cher's 'I Got You Babe'.
Despite a series of dramas in the run-up to the wedding, the day was everything the couple dreamed it would be - and a lot more. "Someone later told me that that's how you know it's true love - when all the details of the day don't muddle the actual sentiment of the wedding," comments Kasey, who reflects on her planning experience to offer advice for other brides. "Take a step away from Pinterest and blogs for a moment and think what does our wedding really feel like? What is the vibe, how are our guests treated, what sounds like fun for the day? What makes me excited or what am I dreading? These are a good guideline for planning your own unique, special wedding."
And, on the day, do as Kasey did and have a word with yourself. "The minute I put my dress on, I thought: 'This is when Kasey, the bride enjoying her day, begins.' It was my job to enjoy every moment and be present. Looking back, I'm so glad I adopted that attitude."
