Wedding at Tregedna Farm, Cornwall

Homespun Fun

Emma and Mark first met on her 18th birthday. Mark had joined some mutual friends at her party at Gyllyngvase Beach Cafe in Falmouth - and the pair soon became close friends. Friendship blossomed into romance and, after almost eight years together, Mark proposed during a walk with their puppy on Gwithian Beach. "Our close friends had drawn a huge heart and the proposal words on the beach. Walking along the sand dunes, I looked down to see a huge sand sign with my name in it and Mark on one knee," recalls Emma.

Opting for an eclectic mood, their wedding was filled with mix and matched, borrowed, homemade and vintage details and a palette of natural colours. Even Emma's dress - a chic knee-skimming, lace number - was made from her mum's wedding dress. "The amazing Annalise Harvey redesigned it, using every last piece to make a more modern style," says Emma. A headpiece made from the remaining lace by Sarah Drew and stylish glittery shoes completed the look, while her bridesmaids wore elegant Twobirds dresses in a palette of soft, romantic shades.

Emma and her Dad arrived in a silver vintage VW Beetle for the ceremony at Budock Church, where guitarist Will Thomas lent some stirring sounds. "I couldn't stop shaking," recalls Emma of the moment, which, for her, proved the best part of the day.

Guests then moved onto Tregedna Farm where an array of homemade, borrowed and collected details and a carnival of bunting, pom-poms and fairy lights set the celebratory mood. Pretty arrangements of flowers spilled from teacups and jam-jars; their elegant green cake was decorated with dainty florals, iced butterflies and bunting; guests were also greeted with sunflower seed favours atop vintage crockery collected from charity shops.

The Gourmet BBQ Co. served up a feast comprising gourmet burgers, couscous, seafood paella, chicken, salads and stuffed peppers, while Roskilly's ice cream served from Cornish Ice Trike's 1930s' tricycle satiated sweet-toothed guests. The treats continued in the evening, as guests tucked into sweet and savoury crumpets from Truly Crumptious. The bride and groom donned matching white Converse as they hit the dance floor for a playlist of party favourites from The Strutts, while a 'marryoke' session proved a resounding success.

Reflecting on a wedding day full of laughter and emotion, Emma says: "The day was about bringing family and friends together and we really felt everyone mingled with each other."

Emma advocates getting the groom involved in the planning - and DIY tasks - as much as possible. "Brides - don't take over from your groom. Mark was much better at crafts than me, and I think brides should trust their future husbands more!"
