Wedding at The Rosevine, Cornwall

Sunshine and Sparklers

The Roseland peninsula made the most beautiful backdrop for Laura and Matt's idyllic Cornish-themed wedding

Laura and Matt first met at university, where they lived a few doors down from one another in college. Eight years later, the couple got engaged during an unforgettable holiday in Norway. "I got out of the car to look at a glacier. Matt appeared behind me and proposed - much to the bemusement of the surrounding tourists!" reminisces Laura. "My parents live in St Mawes and after saying 'Yes!' the next thing I said to him was, 'Can we get married in Cornwall?'"

It didn't take the couple long to fall for the picture-perfect settings of St Just in Roseland Church and The Rosevine, which is just a short stroll from the sands of Porthcurnick beach. "We absolutely loved both places and didn't look anywhere else," explains Laura. And fittingly, Cornwall was the theme of the day. "We named our tables after our favourite places and had pictures of family and friends in those places on the tables," she says.

Laura paired her gown, a dreamy vision of tulle and lace, with a bouquet of soft pink blooms and foliage as she walked down the aisle of the pretty church. Emerging into the glorious sunshine, Matt drove the couple along the winding roads of the Roseland peninsula in an open-top Morgan, which proved to be their favourite moment of the day. "Driving back from the church in amazing sunshine and then arriving at The Rosevine to hear the jazz band and clinking champagne glasses was perfect!" reminisces Matt.

After joining their guests for drinks, jazz and garden games, they served the cakes in the afternoon which seemed to go down well. "We had two cakes, one chocolate and one lemon which were decorated with flowers and bunting, and they disappeared immediately!" says Laura. Everyone then settled into the beautifully dressed tipi with views across the sea for dinner. "We split up the speeches around dinner with ours beforehand, leaving best man Andy and Laura's dad Richard to deliver theirs afterwards," remembers Matt. This meant the couple could really relax, and enjoy the feast of food and wine.

The evening was a magical flurry of sparklers, dancing and live music from rock/pop maestros, Rockit, who kept the dance floor packed until midnight. A show-stopping fireworks display also provided a standout moment. "The fireworks were amazing and were a lovely surprise for our guests."

Full of memories of their sun-drenched day, Laura and Matt recommend organising a get-together ahead of the wedding itself to extend the festivities and enjoy some couple time together. "We were so pleased we had arranged an event on the evening before the wedding as it made the day itself much more relaxed and meant we could spend more time together - just the two of us."
