Wedding at The Horn of Plenty

Homespun Fun

With both Alice and Rich being designers, their wedding day was destined to dazzle with glorious detail. "We put our heart and soul into designing and creating all the fine details," says Alice. "It really came together on the day and felt worth all the hours and hours of cutting, sticking and making!"

The Horn of Plenty offered the perfect backdrop and intimate atmosphere for a traditional country wedding rich with homespun details. "It was big enough to have the guests we wanted to share our day with but at the same time the house itself didn't feel too big - it felt like you were having a party in a beautiful home with all the people you loved around you," she comments.

Alice wore a lace fishtail gown while her bridesmaids' halter-neck dresses in vibrant aqua introduced the day's colour scheme of aqua blue with a hint of pink.

The wedding ceremony at St. Mellion Church "was perfect, small and intimate with flowers and candles," says Alice. The newly-weds were then whisked away in a Jaguar Mark IX to The Horn of Plenty, where they mingled with guests while indulging in canapes, Pimm's, Peroni and a few games of giant Jenga.

Inside the venue, Alice and Rich's creative offerings were in striking abundance. "I hand drew lace and used this on the invitations and wedding stationery, and we had mint green doilies for name places, a bunting style table plan, small vases and jars for flowers," says Alice. Each guest received a gift in the form of a miniature bottle of spirits with individually made 'cheers' tags, while children were given handmade 'wedding doodles' colouring books with crayons.

Tailoring their wedding breakfast to their favourite tastes with the help of the head chef, the sumptuous five-course feast featured dishes such as Thai butternut squash soup, whipped brie, trio of pork and a trio of chocolate, banana and passion fruit desserts.

Three-piece band The Wireless entertained the crowd with a mix of old and new songs, which - together with a personalised playlist - kept the party in full swing throughout the evening.

"We had so many different elements to our day that made it fun, such as a photo frame with props to create informal photos, the live music and all the creative touches we put into making our day unique to us," reflects Alice. "However, I would have to say the moment the vicar announced us as husband and wife was one of the best!"

"Find time for each other on the day as well as your guests," urges Alice, echoing the words of advice from many a newly-wed. "Most importantly, remember it's your day, so do what you both want to do even if it's not seen as 'traditional' - go with what you want as a couple."
